I Did P90X But I Really Didn’t Stick To The Diet

June 18, 2012 - Updated December 7, 2018

Not Seeing Results With P90XAnd you’re not the first person to say this. My guess is 90% or more of people who did an entire round of P90X didn’t even take a peak at the P90X meal plan and went right into the workouts.

You can put me in that boat too.

You Can’t Out Train A Bad Diet

This is one of my favorite Tony Horton quotes and it’s so true. While I did see results from my first couple rounds of P90X I thought I was going to see more. Not in the strength department but more in the mirror department.

I was doing P90X every day and didn’t have the definition I was expecting. Little did I know that my definition of eating good was more along the lines of eating ok.

I would have to change my approach to eating, learn how to cook better, and be more conscious of what I was putting into my body before I would start to see results.

You Have To Do Your Homework

It took me too long to understand how important the meal plans were and I feel this is the same for a lot of people. Making the leap over night to following the meal plans 100% was too big of a challenge.

I read someone say to pick out a couple of meals I could cook and make those meals most of the time. So thats what I did. Now I was focused on making a couple good tasting meals most of the time instead of trying to learn a lot of meals. Little by little I was making better food choices through just a couple of meals.

Make It Easier On Yourself

If you want to see results from P90X then you have to be using Shakeology on a daily basis. Beachbody didn’t come out with Shakeology until after my first three rounds of P90X but did it ever make a difference. My results from using Shakeology accompanied with eating better and doing the workouts made a huge difference. The good thing was that it was so simple to do. One scoop a day mixed in with good meals made a world of difference.

P90X Is Not The Problem

If your one of the many people who did P90X but didn’t get anything out of it then try it again while following the tips above. Accept the fact that you really only put in a 50% effort with the program. Tony Horton has said that your P90X results are about 70% what you eat and 30% workouts. Knowing that should show you what you need to do to get the most out of the program.

I Need Help With The Meal Plans

No problem. If you don’t like the way the meal plans are set up in the P90X meal plan guidebook then try this out. Create a free Beachbody account first.

Then go ahead and click on the “Eat Smart” tab. Check out the meal plan wizard. It lets you pick the kind of meals that will be best for you. What I really like is how they will make up a grocery shopping list for you for the entire week. This will help you out a lot as all of your meals are planned ahead of time.

In the end you really need to spend more time focusing on what you put inside your body if you want to change the outside of your body. The P90X workouts will only do so much if you’re not providing the right amount of nutrition the body needs to get the results you want.

The Insanity Workout Is A RIPOFF!

June 4, 2012 - Updated November 28, 2018

Insanity Workout RipoffSomebody contacted me yesterday and in the message was something that I did not expect to see.

Usually its a comment saying something like “Hi” or “Can you tell me more about _____.”

It was neither. This is what the person decided to send me.

iM SORRY BUT INSANITY IS NOT WORTH 119 BUCKS, 100 BUCKS OR EVEN 50.ALL THE EXERCISES IN THE DVDS ARE ONES YOU COULD PUT TOGETHER YOURSELF JUST BY DOING AEROBICS AND THE OTHER EXERCISES ON A DAILY BASIS. THIS IS JUST N EXAMPLE OF SOMEONE TAKING A BUNCH OF WELL KNOWN EXERCISES…PUTTING THEM IN A STRING OR ROUTNIE, CALLING IT A WORKOUT, AND TRYING TO SELL IT FOR AS MUCH AS THEY CAN. PEOPLE ARE JUST STUPID ENOUGH TO PAY THE ASSHOE THE MONEY.

Its funny when people use all caps. I like to yell their response out loud when I read it back. But let’s go through the comment and see if they are onto something.

The good news is Beachbody On Demand is now a thing where you can view Insanity and every other Beachbody workout online for $99 a year.

But If people could “put together” moves on their own then why don’t they? If it was “well known” that you need to workout on a daily basis to stay in shape then when don’t people do it? The price issue is debatable as most of the cost involved with the dvds has to deal with IP rights.

Something I’m guessing which would bring the price down to $50 if Beachbody chose not to protect their intellectual property. But why are people “just stupid enough” to fork out the $120 to buy it?

I’m not sure if this person has ever done the Insanity workout but while some of the moves are things I’ve done before (pushups, jumping) Id say over 90% was new to me before starting. And I’m somebody who did workout five days a week. I had never done a HIIT program before.

So if I never heard of the HIIT routine before than how am I ever going to know what to do. Yes, I could have done hours of research into HIIT moves, written them down, and then researched how to make a workout program successful over a 60 day period.

But for $120 I could have all of that packaged and sent to me in which all I would have to do is follow the plan. Otherwise I probably would (not) have spent at least 20 hours making up some crap routine. Why do all of that when I could pull out the credit card and buy something that has worked for tens of thousands of people along with getting a 60 day money back guarantee? The biggest problem with this persons comment is they assume too much.

NOT A Ripoff

You get so much for just $120. The biggest things that come to mind are an education in those new moves along with what a HIIT program is. The cast members and Shaun T are all at different levels of fitness so there is somebody you can pick and try to keep up with. This really helps with the motivation.

But the biggest reason why the Insanity workout is not a rip off is it’s a challenge. I don’t care how in shape you are. The Insanity workout is tough. Even Shaun T has to take breaks. There are very few people who can get through an entire workout with good form and with not throwing up. For $120 you can have a challenging workout ready to go everyday with your only goal being to finish it.

It might take you a year (6 rounds) or 6 months (3 rounds) to be able to do it all with no breaks. And when you can’t get anymore out of it you take a break. Put it on the shelf for 6 months and get at it again. You get a lifetime of challenging and instructed workouts to do for $120. That type of training would probably cost around $1000 a year at a gym with membership fees and class costs.

I’m sure I could think of a couple more reasons to explain to this person why the Insanity workout is not a ripoff but I think these do enough justice. Insanity is no joke. There is a reason why professional athletes and thousands of other people don’t mind forking out the $120. It’s because it works.

NYC Proposes A Ban On Large Sugary Drinks – Fail

June 1, 2012 - Updated June 1, 2012

Michael Bloomberg Soda BanNYC Major Michael Bloomberg has proposed a ban on sugary drinks over 16oz at restaurants, street vendors, sports venues, and movie theaters. The goal is to help lower the $4 billion a year the New York City Health Department spends on health care for obese residents. Yes, $4 BILLION a year just on overweight people. It’s so bad that 5,000 people have died from obesity related issues and will soon exceed the number of smoking deaths. Too bad this bill will do nothing to solve the problem.

“For Every One Problem The Government Thinks It Solves It Actually Creates Two More” – Ludwig Von Mises

I came across that quote a couple of years ago when I was starting to learn about free market economics and why Government being involved with anything, especially health care is a bad thing. The test is if you can think of at least two problems that are now created due to the solution the Govt thought up. So lets see what this B- student can come up with.

  • Free Refills – Don’t most restaurants do this already? I’m sure the movie theaters and sports venues can implement something like this for an extra $.50.
  • Buy Unlimited Amounts Of 12oz Cans – Ok, so I can’t buy a 16oz bottle of pop but I can still buy three 12oz cans of pop, right?

Thats it. I found two problems that arise from this. What’s dumber is those two things were already available to get around the 16oz rule. No creative marketing techniques even need to be thought up. This is another example of the Government trying to give their best intentions to “help” the people out but unfortunately it does nothing. There really is only one solution to help lower the $4 billion in costs that the New York City Health Department spends on obese residents and that is to eliminate the New York City Health Department.

What blows my mind is to think that they are realizing how big of a problem they have now at $4 billion a year. I wonder if it was as big (no pun intended) of a problem at $1 billion or even $10 million a year. The one thing I’ve been starting to pick up on is whenever Government has a problem the only solution is “We need more money. If we only had another $100 million we’d be able to fix the problem.” What about the previous $100 million?

I wonder how quickly things would change if there wasn’t money available to the obese residents for hospital visits or pills that don’t do anything? I’m guessing the people would be forced to change their habits. There are hundreds of free articles on the internet that show how to cook and how to make basic workout routines that maybe only involve walking. Isn’t that how Jared from Subway did it? They wouldn’t even have to spend money buying the P90X workout or Shakeology to get their weight under control. Just walk. Problem solved.
