TRUETEE Golf Tee Review

July 23, 2018 - Updated July 23, 2018

Can a golf tee help you hit longer and straighter drives?

My guess is no but I am going to find out.

Last summer at the inaugural Honolulu Open (2017) one of the gifts I received were the TRUETEE golf tees. They were not the only thing we received but they were the most golfy thing.

TRUETEE Golf Tee Review

You cannot look past how they are packaged in a cassette tape holder. What is this the 80’s? If I remember correctly I used the tee once or twice that day but that’s it. I was just grabbing any old tee and giving it a go.

This is a two-man best ball tournament with 50+ dudes I’ve played softball with or against for the past decade. You may start to forget your golfing around the 7th hole which is what makes this tournament truly special.

This years Honolulu Open (2018) was the first Saturday after the 4th of July and we received the TRUETEE’s again. I don’t remember what I did with last years but I decided I was not going to forget about them this year and test them out over a round of 18 holes just like how I do with golf balls.

TRUETEE Non Deflecting Golf Tee

I immediately tucked them into my golf bag and didn’t bring them out to play once. Didn’t want to lose or forget about them.

And here we are. Review time.

TRUETEE says their golf tee is “The World’s Best Non-Deflecting Golf Tee”. They did not provide any information saying how they earned that distinction so lets just believe that them and the other golf tee companies recreated the street fight scene from Anchorman. Last company standing wins.

A first for me with a golf tee is that the TRUETEE comes with instructions.

TRUETEE Golf Tee Instructions

So I need to bring another golf tee with me to penetrate the ground under hard and dry conditions? What, the TRUETEE can’t penetrate on its own?

What’s most important is the shortest of the three fins has to be facing the club head.

Outside of keeping it perfectly straight up to allow the golf ball to sit on it I now feel properly trained.

TRUETEE Golf Tee Short Fin

Ok, so lets get into it. I played one 18 Hole round at Rackham Golf Course in Huntington Woods, MI. Temps were in the low 80s. A light breeze. Sunny.

I used the TRUETEE on every single tee shot including hitting irons into the Par 3’s.

To be as fair as I could with the TRUETEE I played a brand new Titleist PRO V1. Its my go to golf ball, one I’ve expertly reviewed, and have played over 20 times at Rackham. I know where I end up on most drives with good old fashion wooden tees and a PRO V1 so I’ll have something to compare.

TRUETEE Golf Tee Titleist Pro V1
I can assure you its a Pro V1.

1st Hole – Pushed it way right.

Rackham 1st Hole TRUETEE
FORE Right!!!

2nd Hole – I forgot to take a picture. My bad. It went right of the fairway.

3rd Hole – Made it to the middle of the fairway and to the turn on this left dogleg.

Rackham 3rd Hole TRUETEE

4th Hole – Hit it straight and through the fairway on this right dogleg. This has happened before and I should probably hit 3 wood. But I like to send it with driver.

Rackham 4th Hole TRUETEE

5th Hole – A Green In Regulation on this Par 3. Hit 7 Iron.

Rackham 5th Hole TRUETEE

6th Hole – Made the bend and put it in the middle of the fairway on this subtle dogleg left Par 4.

Rackham 6th Hole TRUETEE

7th Hole – Forgot to take a picture. It went right…into a bunch of trees…and some tall grass. I should have taken a picture. It was scenic. You would have loved it. I got a 7 on this Par 5.

8th Hole – Hit 8 iron into this Par 3 and it backspun off the green. So sad.

Rackham 8th Hole TRUETEE

9th Hole –  Hit it just through the left side of this offset fairway. Tees are a good 25 yards right of the fairway. This is a good place to miss.

Rackham 9th Hole TRUETEE

10th Hole – Right down the middle on this long Par 4. Anything past the 200 yard marker is an excellent drive if you ask me. This is a bit further than my previous longest drive I had two weeks prior with the Bandit SB.

Rackham 10th Hole TRUETEE

11th Hole – Right down the middle on this also very long Par 4.

Rackham 11th Hole TRUETEE

12th Hole – Way left. A dead pull. It was nice being in the shade for a second.

Rackham 12th Hole TRUETEE

13th Hole – Forgot to take a picture on this long Par 3. My bad. Ended up left of the green.

14th Hole – Took the direct route to the fairway as the tee box is a good 20 yards left of the middle of the fairway. Didn’t make the fairway but this is a good drive.

Rackham 14th Hole TRUETEE

15th Hole – Anytime you end up near the 150 yard marker in the middle of the fairway on this deceivingly long Par 4 means you hit a super most premium excellent drive.

Rackham 15th Hole TRUETEE

16th Hole – Forgot to take a picture of this very long Par 3. Ended up right of the green.

17th Hole – Right in the middle of the fairway about 60 yards from the green. One of those is mine. The other one is the dude I was golfing with second shot. He did not have a good first or second shot for that matter.

Rackham 17th Hole TRUETEE

18th Hole – And to end the day I pushed it right.

Rackham 18th Hole TRUETEE

My stats say I hit 6 fairways and put 1 (out of 3) Par 3 tee shots on the green. Let’s give the TRUETEE a made up score of 7 out of 18.

Let’s say a score of 7 is “regular”. And it was within mere yards of picking up a few extra points as some drives were just off the fairway or green. I really only had one bad drive (#7) that put me into a spot where I had to punch out.

TRUETEE Golf Tee Score

Do I think the TRUETEE helped me hit straighter drives compared to a regular wood tee? Not really.

Do I think the TRUETEE helped me hit longer drives? Not really either.

It did appear to have less friction at contact on some shots. And hitting irons into the Par 3’s seemed to launch it higher with more spin.

But other than that I do not feel the TRUETEE gave me an advantage. I was ending up in a lot of the same spots I end up in whether I hit it well or missed it. Outside of my booming drive on #10 most of my drives were going the same distance too.

It was a little annoying having to make sure the fins were lined up correctly and pointed in the right direction.

And I did bend the all important short fin which made it unusable. I looked like quite the idiot trying to get the ball to sit until I figured out it was bent. TRUETEE made it 14 holes before I had to use another one. Don’t worry, I brought it home and threw it into our recycling bin.

TRUETEE Golf Tee Broken
Its what happens to golf tees when you crush drives. Like, a lot.

The one thing I did like was the height. The TRUETEE is not that tall so as soon as you get it into the ground its ready. There are no mis-hits due to teeing it too high.

I shot an 81 which is a score I seem to put up a lot with a Titleist Pro V1. So it didn’t help me out on the score front.

Outside of its unique packaging, design, and instructions I would not go out of my way to buy the TRUETEE. I’ll stick with whatever unbroken tee I find laying on the tee boxes that people leave behind.

What’s funny is you can’t even buy them online. The company does not have a website.

You have to fill out an order form that is on the back of the instructions or call an 800 number to get them. How hilarious is that?

The only thing I could find about the TRUETEE online is a trademark submitted in 1986. I do not know how my buddy found them.

They aren’t a bad golf tee and when he gives them out again next year I’ll throw them in the bag. I have no problem playing them at all.

In the end I would keep your expectations on the low side if you happen to come across a TRUETEE and think its going to help you hit longer and straighter drives.

FOO-KING-LONG Golf Ball Review

July 16, 2018 - Updated July 16, 2018

I am starting to head completely off the radar with my search for the best golf ball. How the hell I ended up finding and then deciding to play the FOO-KING-LONG golf ball beats me.

Actually, I know. I went to Google and searched for “illegal golf balls” and “non-conforming golf balls”. One of the results which popped up was the FOO-KING-LONG.

You’re smart enough to translate its name into “a golf ball that goes fucking far”. You got that part.

And you have to appreciate the Marketing department. Look at the box and sleeve. Well played.

FOO KING LONG Dozen Golf Balls Packaging

FOO KING LONG Sleeve Golf Balls

They admit to it being non-conforming and illegal. You won’t see any PGA Tour pros teeing one up as its not allowed sir.

And they’re not telling us what the illegal core is made out of that gives its “Ninja Like Ball Speed.” I looked. Not a mention of one scientific term anywhere. All we know is “Bandanas and Ninjas are not included” with each purchase. Let’s go with each golf ball is made with grounded up Chinese Throwing Stars.

But whats most important is finding out if the FOO-KING-LONG is a good golf ball. And that’s my specialty. It’s what I mostly do best. So that’s what I did.

Just like with all of my reviews I play one 18 hole round at Rackham Golf Course from the White Tees. I played this round on 7-6-18 with temperatures around 85 degrees, maybe an 8mph wind, and sunny skies.

FOO KING LONG Golf Ball Review

Sending Driver – No bullshit – this is a very long golf ball. I hit the Mother FOO-KING Shit out of the FOO-KING-LONG all day with driver. I was ending up on parts of the fairway or even in the rough a good 5 to 20 yards further than I’ve ever been on Rackham. Like, all day, and stuff.

It started on the first hole. I’m still 265 yards out with my second shot but a 250 yard drive is pretty good for your boy. Especially since I do not warm up or stretch. Cold as ice on an 85 degree day. We don’t need to talk about the 3 wood I hit next into some tall grass on the left resulting in a lost ball.

FOO KING LONG 1st Hole

On the Par 4 third hole I drove the ball through the dogleg left fairway which has happened before but is rare. Its at least 250 yards to the dog leg.

FOO KING LONG 3rd Hole

Not sure if its my furthest drive on the Par 4 fourth hole but it was definitely the most accurate AND furthest drive I’ve ever hit on this hole. Hit Pitching Wedge into the green from the fairway for the first time ever where typically I hit 8 or 9 iron.

FOO KING LONG 4th Hole

And then absolutely hit the furthest drive I’ve ever hit on the Par 5 7th. This is a good 10 yards further than my drives with the TaylorMade TP5X and Nike PD Long. I know this to be true because those other golf balls stopped on the right side near a tree. Not so with the FOO-KING-LONG. It rolled right by it.

FOO KING LONG 7th Hole

And another monster drive on the Par 4 12th. I’m about 75 yards out on this 333 yard long hole which puts me at a 258 yard drive. We don’t need to talk about me flubbing the approach into the left bunker.

FOO KING LONG 12th Hole

To end off the day I hit a “no doubt about it” , “shoot the boot lock of the week” , “see you later” drive on number 18. Eighteen is the hardest hole on Rackham as it’s an uphill 431 yard Par 4. It’s a Par 5 for the hotties.

I typically end up 175 yards out and hit 3 or 5 wood into the green because the shot plays like its 220 yards. Not so today. Am right up next to the 150 yard marker. That’s at least a 276 yard drive. Your boy was pumped up. I hit an iron onto the green for the first time ever.

FOO KING LONG 18th Hole

It should be noted I hit the fairway 4 times which is below average. Two times the FOO-KING-LONG rolled through the dogleg and was just off the fairway at least four times.

I also had to give myself a penalty stroke on #9 as my tee shot went a little left through the fairway and into the tall grass. This has happened before with the Vice Pro but the FOO-KING-LONG bounced into the shit at the end of the tall grass, not at the beginning.

Overall it was fairly accurate. Trajectory was mid to high and most of my drives went straight. No draws and no slices.

Fairway Woods & Hybrids – With me getting notably more distance with the FOO-KING-LONG off the tee it meant less fairway woods. Which is refreshing. I didn’t hit a hybrid all day either.

It was simply a day of advancing the ball down the fairway. Except for this one shot. Which is the only shot we will talk about. I referenced my tee shot on the Par 5 7th hole in the Sending Driver section.

This is a fairly long dogleg left hole with a small green and trees protecting the left side of the green and fairway. You have to hit one hell of a tee shot down the right side of the fairway to even have a shot at hitting the green in two. I’ve come up 15 yards short of the green a half a dozen times. Here is a picture of my tee shot.

FOO KING LONG 7th Hole Tee Shot

You can see the 150 yard marker 80ish (100?…1000?) yards ahead putting me 230 yards out. You can’t feel the breeze at my left rear quarter but I’ll tell you that its rare to have the wind at your back on this hole. Not a lot of wind but maybe 5 mph.

Here I am thinking I’ve got a legitimate chance to get on the green in two because the FOO-KING-LONG did its job and went further down the fairway and into the best spot possible to hit the green.

Let’s FOO-KING send the 3 wood. And send it I did. As soon as it left the club I knew I made good contact. Starting it left with the wind gently pushing it to the right. I couldn’t tell where it ended up but I knew it was close.

FOO KING LONG 3 Wood Bunker

Not even going to be mad about the FOO-KING-LONG ending up in the bunker. (Zoom into the tee shot picture you can see this bunker on the right front of the green) It splashed about 15 feet behind, took a jump, and rolled a few feet. It sailed the first quarter of the green in the air. That was every bit of a 230 yard shot in the air.

No matter which way you slice it this is a 502 yard hole and I got basically pin high in two shots. That has never happened with any other ball I’ve tested on this particular hole. Nice job FOO-KING-LONG.

Irons – Things got a little interesting here. Only had two Greens In Regulation with the FOO-KING-LONG which is way below average. And it’s because this golf ball was long. For the better part of the day my iron shots were going a full club length longer with the FOO-KING-LONG versus a conforming golf ball.

FOO KING LONG 8 Iron
8 Iron could not hold the 3rd Green from 150 yards out.

It did show off some backspin when I dropped this one in on the Par 4 4th hole from around 100 yards.

FOO KING LONG Pitching Wedge

And it showed off its angry side with the 5 iron I hit into the Par 4 18th green after my personal best drive.

FOO KING LONG 5 Iron
It was hungry for some green.

I just could not get the FOO-KING-LONG under control with the irons. It kind of reminded me of the XXIO in that it was a tank of a golf ball. It exploded off the iron but control and accuracy where not its strong parts.

Wedges – With me not hitting basically any Greens In Regulation it left me with a lot of chip and bunker shots. Results were mixed.

The FOO-KING-LONG did not check up once nor show any kind of spin with any chip I hit. This is not a good chipping ball for that reason.

Knowing there were not going to be surprises with chip shots meant I just needed to get it rolling which resulted in shots coming to rest close enough to the hole for me to have a legitimate chance at making a putt.

Putting – One 3 putt and 7 one putts for a total of 30 putts. Not bad but its a bit misleading. Plus I putted a number of shots off the green instead of using a wedge but those go down as chips, not putts.

A very firm but not rock hard response is what the FOO-KING-LONG makes with the putter. It rolled with purpose.

Durability – Sadly this was a day where I lost two golf balls. Rarely do I lose one. Good thing I brought two sleeves to the course. This one only has nine holes of play on it and barely a scratch. Definitely could get more rounds out of it.

FOO KING LONG Golf Ball Durability

Score – 85. GIR – 2. Putts – 30. Fairways – 4. Penalty Strokes – 2.

FOO KING LONG Score

That 85 was a lot of work. Two penalty strokes because of lost balls. Played the Par 5’s 4 over. Zero birdies with 8 pars. Six of those pars were from scrambling. After sending driver and fairway woods the FOO-KING-LONG became a bit of job to get around the course.

Could it be I hit the crap out of it because I’d been a good boy and did not miss a day of the hybrid Body Beast workout I’ve been doing for the past month? Maybe.

Or could it be the FOO-KING-LONG is just a very long golf ball? Also maybe. Its claim of “When Long Just Isn’t Enough” might have some truth to it.

I do think there is something to this golf ball being long. There are days when I know I’m hitting well and it didn’t matter what golf ball I was playing. This was not one of those days. This golf ball just went.

FOO KING LONG Ninja Skills
Ninja my ass! I see you clear as day.

I don’t see myself playing this golf ball on a regular basis but maybe the next time I am in a 4 man scramble I’ll give a sleeve to whomever on the team hits the longest and let them have a go at it.

For me it really comes back to was the FOO-KING-LONG fun to play? Kind of. Hitting long clubs was definitely fun but around the greens felt like work.

But it was funny as hell showing the golf ball to the guys I got paired up. Their faces were like “WTF is this?” There might have been some “Come on Mother FOO-KING” and “What the FOO-KING were you doing there?”

My favorite was when I sprayed my tee shot on the Par 5 14th into the 17th fairway. A guy who works at Rackham was on a break and joined us on that hole. He did not know I was playing the FOO-KING-LONG and asked me what I hit. He would get to the ball before me as he was in a cart and I was walking. I told him the FOO-KING-LONG.

He drove up to it, drove back, and said “there’s some fucking Chinese shit on that ball. Is that you?” As a matter of fact it is.

How To Do The 3 Day Shakeology Cleanse

July 11, 2018 - Updated November 16, 2018

Shakeology CleanseMost people who have bought Shakeology have heard about the 3 Day Shakeology cleanse. If you have not heard about it by now then you should really look into doing it as its a quick way to put your body through a detox if you will.

I’m not a nutritionist but merely a messenger of how to do the Shakeology cleanse. From what I’ve been reading, it is not a true cleanse because you are not deprived of calories and nutrients. What this does is provide maximum nutrients with the least amount of calories.

What Is The 3 Day Shakeology Cleanse?

You need to follow the same regimen for 3 days straight. Have 3 Shakeology shakes per day, 1 or 2 pieces for fruit as a snack, and 1 salad for dinner that can include chicken or fish. Drink 2 to 4 liters of water every day and go easy on the salad dressing. Limit your use of salt and pepper with the meals too.

What Do The Meals Look Like?

Breakfast: 1 Scoop Shakeology with or without fruit

Snack: 1 Piece of Fruit

Lunch: 1 Scoop Shakeology

Snack: 1 Scoop Shakeology with or without fruit

Dinner: Salad with fish or chicken served with 3 servings of vegetables.

Tips

Use 8 to 10 oz of water blended with ice in each Shakeology you have. All in all you should be consuming 800 – 1100 calories per day while doing the 3 Day Shakeology Cleanse. Try to do one every 4 months or in between workout programs. Try not to do a Shakeology cleanse during a normal week of P90X or Insanity because you will not have as much energy to complete the workouts.

Beachbody’s in house fitness guru Steve Edwards says that a recovery week would be an ideal time. Lay off other supplements during the 3 days. Do a 1 or 2 day Shakeology cleanse if you ate or drank a lot over the weekend. This is a quick way to get all of the gunk out of your system and back on track.

What Were Your Results?

I have done the 3 day Shakeology cleanse 3 times. I only lost 1 pound and just barely a .5% of body fat each time. This was to be expected as I already ate well and don’t have a lot of weight to lose. Even though I take Shakeology daily, this for me was more of a way to get whatever junk I had in my system out before starting my next 60 or 90 day workout program.

When I woke up on the 4th day I felt lighter and mentally better. All of the ingredients that come in Shakeology had a chance to get to work without any interference from the other things I ate. The only down side I felt from doing the Shakeology cleanse was that I was starting to feel very hungry on the third day. I knew this was coming as I cut my normal calorie intake in half.

Summary

The Shakeology cleanse is a great way to jump start your weight loss or a way to clean out your body before starting a new workout program. Its really not a hard program to follow and you’ll be surprised how your body reacts to it in such a short period of time.

Each person will have different results but it is nice to give your body a chance to cycle out the bad and replace it with high nutrient meals over a 3 day period.

At the same time this assumes you already have Shakeology in the house. I’ve had a bag sent my house every month for 7 years and will continue to do so. If you don’t buy Shakeology already then you might enjoy the 3 Day Refresh.

Primal Kitchen Review: This Stuff Is Good

July 9, 2018 - Updated July 9, 2018

Mark Sisson got me good. Basically gives away all of his outstanding content on his blog and then writes up one of the best comprehensive yet simple books about health and fitness in The Primal Blueprint.

When I finished The Primal Blueprint I was like “how does Mark make money when he’s giving away the knowledge for free”. Sure as shit up pops an email mentioning the Primal Kitchen with a 15% discount and a bunch of freebies on my first order.

Primal Kitchen Whole 30 Kit Review
Primal Kitchen Whole 30 Kit

I have been buying from the Primal Kitchen for a year now starting with the Whole 30 Kit. Instead of writing reviews for each item from the Primal Kitchen I decided it would be best to dedicate one page to all of them. Reason being is there is only so much you can say about Mayo.

At the time of this writing I have almost tried them all and will add in the last ones as I go. With that, I’ll start with my favorite and work my way down.

** Click any link to the Primal Kitchen and use Coupon Code: BRAD to get 10% off site wide.**

Primal Kitchen Chipotle Lime Mayo ReviewChipotle Lime Mayo

Holy fucking shit is this stuff delicious. I am not joking. This is by far the best mayo I have had in my entire life. I cannot put this shit down when I get it. I have bought 4 jars so far and rarely does it last a week in my house.

The Chipotle Lime Mayo is so good that there have been times where I’ll grab a fork, go to the fridge, open the jar, and start eating away. I get 6 swipes with my fork in before I show some restraint and put it back.

I do not know how Mark and his team made this shit but its amazing. I’ll put it on eggs, throw a scoop in salad, or use it as a dip. It is pricey at $9.95 a jar and it goes quickly. It would be nice if they sold it in a much larger tub with hopefully some sort of a discount based on volume.

Its hard to justify buying the Chipotle Lime Mayo all the time because of the price. There is one of those fancy health food stores near me that keeps it in stock which I pop into every other month or so when I am in downtown Royal Oak. It costs the same to buy it in the store as it does via the Primal Kitchen website as they do free shipping.

Primal Kitchen Vanilla Coconut Primal Fuel ReviewPrimal Fuel

Available in Vanilla Coconut and Chocolate Coconut. I tried Vanilla first followed by Chocolate. Both flavors are scary good with me favoring Vanilla just a little. After opening the tub up you can really smell the coconut.

My first try of Primal Fuel I mixed it with water and slammed it. Not bad at all. On the second try I blended it with a banana, blueberries, and strawberries. Thats where the Primal Fuel shines. It was awesome.

Primal Kitchen Chocolate Coconut Primal Fuel ReviewIt does not have the amount of ingredients Shakeology has and that is ok. There are only 21 servings in Primal Fuel and for $50 is a fair price. For that reason alone I do not see myself writing a Primal Fuel vs Shakeology post as they are not similar in price or ingredients.

I will say that both flavors of Primal Fuel taste better than just about every flavor of Shakeology. My guess is because of there being less ingredients so the Vanilla, Chocolate, and Coconut really pop.

This is one of those items I could see myself complimenting Shakeology with but not replacing. A backup meal replacement shake or even as a post workout drink. I see myself buying Primal Fuel every once in awhile.

Primal Kitchen Chocolate Collagen Fuel ReviewCollagen Fuel

If there was one Primal Kitchen item I was curious about trying it would be Collagen Fuel.

If you are following the Primal or Paleo diet and consume a lot of meat then you may put yourself at risk of living a shorter life.

If you supplement your meat intake with collagen as it is high in Glycine than it is supposed to counteract those effects.

Collagen also supports joints, connective tissue, hair, skin, nails, and the gut. What interested me the most was how it helps the joints and connective tissues. Years of playing sports has done a number on those.

I tried Chocolate Collagen Fuel followed by Vanilla Collagen Fuel. My first impression after opening each was the coconut smell (which seems to happen with all Primal Kitchen products) and how clumpy it was. My second impression was how the tub was half full. I hate when that happens. The picture you see here had had 8 scoops taken out of it. I am also not liking how there are only 12 servings or 24 scoops.

Primal Kitchen Vanilla Collagen Fuel Review

I tried Collagen Fuel three times before blending it with other items. It tastes very good. Didn’t notice anything immediately or the days after. It is far too early to tell what Collagen Fuel is going to do for me.

I know I am supposed to take two scoops at a time and probably should since I am using two scoops of Shakeology for Andrea and I. But Collagen Fuel is a little pricey and ordering it every two weeks is kind of a pain in the butt. So I am sticking with the one scoop for now and will order every 40 days or so. I like Vanilla just a little bit more than Chocolate.

What intrigues me the most about Collagen Fuel is the long term affects of taking it and what it can do for my knee and elbow injuries I have been dealing with for a decade now. Will update over time.

Collagen Peptides

When I received the email announcing the fine people at Primal Kitchen are now selling Collagen Peptides I wondered why they didn’t sell these first. I mean, its the same collagen thats in Collagen Fuel.

Primal Kitchen Unflavored Collagen Peptides Review

I’m sure there is a good reason why but to me its a no-brainer. You get the same grass-fed collagen peptides that are in Collagen Fuel but without the coconut flavor. These are unflavored collagen peptides that you mix in with whatever you want.

The best part of the Collagen Peptides is the price. You get 41 servings for $35 versus 12 servings for $40 with Collagen Fuel. Why even buy Collagen Fuel (unless you like the taste) when all you want is the collagen peptides.

At the time of this update I have finished two tubs of Collagen Fuel and one tub of collagen from Sports Research. Taking collagen on a day to day basis has been apart of my routine for nine months and I’m seeing the benefits of doing so.

I am almost finished with my bag of Primal Kitchen Collagen Peptides and I don’t feel they have the same “kick” as the ones from Sports Research. They both have Type 1 & 3 collagen in them but Sports Research has 11g per serving versus 10g per serving with Primal Kitchen. I doubt 1g makes a difference but it kind of feels like it.

I have been mixing the unflavored collagen peptides in my morning coffee and daily Shakeology. Since these came out I see myself buying these over Collagen Fuel because of price and because I’m not getting rid of Shakeology.

Primal Kitchen Mayo ReviewMayo

Regular old boring delicious mayo. As you can tell from above, I have a thing for the Chipotle Lime Mayo. The regular Mayo is good, not as good from a taste point of view as Chipotle Lime, but good.

The Avocado Oil is a nice touch and the simplicity of the quality ingredients makes it so much better than your run of the mill mayo you get at a grocery store.

Again, $9.95 a jar is on the expensive side but if its quality you want then thats what you get. It is available to be purchased in a gallon sized tub.

Primal Kitchen Garlic Aioli Mayo ReviewGarlic Aioli Mayo

When I received the email from Primal Kitchen mentioning the new Garlic Aioli Mayo I was eager to try it.

The regular Mayo and Chipotle Lime Mayo are two products I continue to buy and never disappoint.

Unfortunately I was not impressed with the Garlic Aioli. My tastebuds were not liking it. I don’t know if it was the Garlic, Aioli, or Rosemary but I was not feeling it.

This Mayo is not going to be one I buy again.

Primal Kitchen Ranch Dressing ReviewRanch Dressing

Wow, just wow. This is some good tasting stuff. It reminds me of ranch dressings I’ve had at fancy restaurants.

It does not glob (you know what I mean) out when poured. The right amount of creaminess when applied to a salad.

Avocado Oil and Apple Cider Vinegar give it a unique taste over big box grocery store ranch dressings.

Again, at $7.95 it is pricey and it goes quick. It is only available to buy in one size. The Ranch Dressing is my favorite Primal Kitchen dressing but like the other items I wish it was available to buy in bulk.

Primal Kitchen Vegan Ranch Dressing ReviewVegan Ranch Dressing

Introduced in 2018 the Vegan Ranch Dressing was made for all of those…well…Vegans. I am a big fan of Vegan food but am not one in the least bit.

And just like the regular Ranch Dressing you cannot go wrong with the Vegan one. It is really good.

The two share almost all of the same ingredients outside of this dressing being egg free.

I have to put this one up higher on my favorite Primal Kitchen dressings because Ranch is the best dressing. Its not even up for debate. You know it to be true.

Primal Kitchen Dreamy Italian Dressing ReviewDreamy Italian Dressing

Another dressing introduced in 2018 the Dreamy Italian is a twist on a dressing I rarely use in Italian and one I use all the time in something that looks like Ranch.

That’s the best way I can describe Dreamy Italian. And this stuff is excellent.

I’d put up up higher in my favorites but I still have a thing for Ranch. But after trying it for the first time I thought why hasn’t somebody made this before? Maybe they have but I haven’t had it.

This is one dressing I’d recommend for those wanting to try a new sort of dressing from Primal Kitchen.

Primal Kitchen Caesar Dressing ReviewCaesar Dressing

This is one of the last dressings I got around to trying and I am going to rank it in second place behind the Ranch.

Avocado Oil continues to make all the difference in the Primal Kitchen dressings and does so in the Caesar. Tastes very good and might be one of the best Caesar dressings I’ve ever had. Not one particular ingredient sticks out over the others.

Hopefully Mark Sisson and his team will start making these dressings in larger quantities soon. There is something not so financially friendly about spending $7.95 on a salad dressing and maybe getting three servings out of it.

If it wasn’t for the price I would probably cycle Caesar along with Ranch into the items I purchase more often.

Primal Kitchen Italian Vinaigrette ReviewItalian Vinaigrette

Also introduced in 2018 was a good old fashion Italian Vinaigrette. Nothing is old fashion from the Primal Kitchen people and their take on Italian is no different.

I always have to be in the mood for an Italian dressing or it comes with whatever I ordered. And thats the case with this one.

Its good. I like it. But I don’t see myself buying it all that often as I prefer Ranch or crazy sorts of dressings. And with the Dreamy Italian available I’d buy that one moving forward.

Using it as marinade is a little out of my price range too. I can find two or three marinades for the same price.

Primal Kitchen Green Goddess Dressing ReviewGreen Goddess Dressing

Applied some of it to a salad I had and did not know what I thought about it. Decided it would be best to take a shot of Green Goddess to get the full effect. And that’s what I did.

Its somewhere in-between a dressing and a Vinaigrette. Not creamy like a dressing but not runny like a Vinaigrette. The combo of Avocado Oil and its spices make it interesting to say the least.

Green Goddess is a good dressing but I was not overly wowed with it like Ranch and to a lessor extent Caesar. Not sure if I will be buying Green Goddess again because like the other Primal Kitchen dressings it is expensive at $7.95 a bottle.

Primal Kitchen Honey Mustard Vinaigrette ReviewHoney Mustard Vinaigrette

A first for me. I have had Honey Mustard and Vinaigrette dressings before but not at the same time.

My initial thoughts of the Honey Mustard Vinaigrette were it was going to be thick like the Honey Mustard dressings I’ve had before. As you can tell from the picture it is not. It is more Vinaigrette than Honey Mustard.

It is good but not my favorite. Probably due to me thinking about Honey Mustard being something used to dip stuff into and occasionally used on salads.

The same $7.95 as the other dressings with no chance to buy in bulk.

Primal Kitchen Greek Vinaigrette ReviewGreek Vinaigrette

A very good vinaigrette that met my expectations. Kind of spicy and tangy. I think I might be sensitive to one of the ingredients. There were a couple of times when my tongue swelled up. Nothing crazy but enough to get me thinking something strange is going on.

I am not a big fan of vinaigrettes in general so that is why this one and Honey Mustard are on the bottom of the list.

$7.95 for a bottle with no opportunity to buy in bulk. I might have poured a quarter of the bottle out the first time I used the Greek Vinaigrette on a salad. Made me sad seeing $1.98 in dressing pour out all at once. This is the only dressing I will not buy again unless they are giving a sweet deal.

Primal Kitchen Balsamic Vinaigrette ReviewBalsamic Vinaigrette

This dressing was released a few months after the others. I’ve never really been a fan of Vinaigrettes. There is something kind of boring about them. Plus, I think I have a mild sensitivity to Vinegar which makes me tongue puffy. Its weird.

Not to wuss out I bought the Balsamic Vinaigrette when it came out. Like the other Primal Kitchen dressings a lot of it poured out when I tipped it over my salad. I hate seeing that.

Like the Greek and Honey Mustard Vinaigrettes I’d say the Balsamic is OK. I know its a quality Vinaigrette from the ingredients and because the people at Primal Kitchen made it. I’m just not a Vinaigrette fan. I’d only buy it again if its apart of some package deal.

Primal Kitchen Sesame Ginger Dressing ReviewSesame Ginger Vinaigrette

Another vinaigrette introduced in 2018 was Sesame Ginger. As I stated above with the other Vinaigrette’s I tend to forget about these when looking to put something on a salad.

And that’s what happened here. It was too Ginger-ey for me.

This just isn’t a flavor I am going to go for again. It also doesn’t help I dumped out a quarter of it which tends to happen with the Primal Kitchen dressings.

I understand it can be used for a Marinade also but that is a pricey $7 Marinade for me when I can get three for that price at Krogers.

Primal Kitchen Lemon Turmeric Dressing ReviewLemon Turmeric Vinaigrette

Rounding out the dressings, vinaigrettes, and marinades introduced in 2018 is Lemon Turmeric.

I understand there are health benefits to Lemon and Turmeric helps lowering inflammation but I cannot wrap my tastebuds around this one.

And using it for a marinade seems kind of like a waste due to cost. It is unlike anything I’ve ever tried and I do not see myself buying it again. This is just not my style.

Avocado Oil

Primal Kitchen makes two Avocado Oils, California Extra Virgin Avocado Oil and regular Avocado Oil.  I prefer to use this on a salad versus the vinaigrettes. I am guessing the “Extra Virgin” is what makes this Avocado Oil so thin.

California Extra Virgin Avocado Oil ReviewPrimal Kitchen Avocado Oil ReviewPrimal Kitchen Avocado Oil Spray ReviewIt is noticeable how much clearer and thinner it is than the regular Avocado Oil or Olive Oil. I have used it to cook with and to drizzle on salads.

This is my first time buying an Avocado Oil and possibly using it. The only oils I have used up to this point are Olive Oils.

Avocado Oil plays a big part in the Primal Kitchen lineup as its an ingredient in all of the items above. They really like their fats.

At $12.95 each it seems like a fair price due to the quality of the ingredients. The difference is the extra virgin comes in a 250ml bottle and the avocado oil is in a 500ml bottle.

Each of the avocado oils are available to buy three at a time for a savings of $2 per bottle.

Primal Kitchen also makes an Avocado Oil Spray. Cooking with it was a little tricky as I never felt like it covered the pan all that well and I seemed to burn the food more often.

But the spray did work well for salads which is what I used it for most often. I don’t see myself buying the spray all that often because I typically include an Avocado in most of the salad’s I make. Maybe when they have a buy one get one sale.

Ill probably buy regular avocado in the future due to getting twice as much for the same price.

Primal Kitchen Chocolate Hazelnut Bar ReviewProtein Bars

The Grass Fed Collagen Bars are definitely a new one for me. They are not a protein bar or a granola bar either. I have not had something like these before. Primal Kitchen really pushes the collagen part of these bars. From what I understand it is 100% protein.

They get their collagen from grass-fed cows in Germany and Brazil. All four of the bars have 15 grams of protein.

Primal Kitchen Macadamia Sea Salt Bar ReviewIf collagen is is the protein that holds everything together in our bodies then its also what holds all of the ingredients in the bars together. They have a taffy type texture after you take a bite.

What surprised me the most about the bars was on the nutrition label. They have less than 12 grams of carbs and 3 grams of sugar. Most protein bars I’ve had over the years have 30 grams of carbs and 16 grams of sugar. Not so with the Primal Kitchen Protein Bars. These have simpler and healthier ingredients in these grass fed collagen bars versus your typical protein bar.

Primal Kitchen Dark Chocolate Almond Bar ReviewYou can definitely tell the Primal Kitchen team has put some effort into making these protein bars unique.

The Macadamia Sea Salt Bar is my favorite. Its the only one where I went back for a second bite during my taste test. And its probably the only one I would buy again unless there is some package deal going on.

After the Macadamia Sea Salt flavor I’d go with the Coconut Cashew, Chocolate Hazelnut, and Dark Chocolate Almond. I just feel the Macadamia Sea Salt is that much better than the other flavors.

Primal Kitchen Coconut Cashew Bar ReviewI will say they have been able to come up with some unique flavors with their protein bars. You get 12 bars for $36 which I feel is a little on the high end for a snack bar.

This is one of those you get what you pay for things. There is no doubt the Primal Kitchen Protein Bars are good and more than likely good for you. For me, these are a once in awhile purchase because they are somewhat expensive.

Where To Buy

As you can probably guess, the best place to buy Primal Kitchen products is at the Primal Kitchen website. Shipping and customer service are excellent. Upon making your first order you will be added to their mailing list.

About two weeks after you receive your order you will probably get an email asking for you to review your purchase. Do so and you will receive a 20% off coupon for your next purchase of something you have never bought before. Its a clever way to get you to buy and try more Primal Kitchen products.

You may also see Primal Kitchen products at your local grocery store. Mark Sisson and his team are going mainstream with the Paleo way. I was surprised to see the Chipotle Lime Mayo and regular Mayo on the shelf at the Kroger near my house.

Summary:

The Chipotle Lime Mayo is awesome. I lied when I said I could not write that much about Mayo. The regular Mayo is very good too. Ranch dressing is my favorite followed by Vegan Ranch and Dreamy Italian. California Extra Virgin Avocado Oil is great to cook with or use on salads.

The Macadamia Sea Salt Collagen Bars are awesome and I will be ordering more of them.

Vanilla Coconut Primal Fuel is excellent. This will be something I buy every once in awhile as it does not have the same ingredients as Shakeology which I am used to.

Collagen Fuel is excellent but you’d be better off buying the Collagen Peptides as you get the same ingredients with four times as many servings for roughly the same price.

There are still a couple more items I will be purchasing to try out and will update them with a review when I get them. I do buy both Mayo’s every couple of months regardless of price. For the rest of the items I wait until there is a buy one get one free or 20% off coupon in their monthly newsletter.

One of my only gripes about buying Primal Kitchen items is the packaging. There is a lot of waste. My guess is because they use glass for almost all of their items. Each item gets its own box.

Primal Kitchen Packaging

And every single one of the items is wrapped like a burrito. It looks very cool but man does it seem like quite a bit of waste. My recycle bin is nearly full after opening my order up and putting everything away. Hopefully they figure something out or start shipping in plastic.

Primal Kitchen Dressing Packaging

If you want to ease your way into the Primal Kitchen I recommend getting a Free Box of Dark Chocolate Almond Bars. You only pay for shipping. This also puts you on their list where you will be sent coupons.

The price of the Primal Kitchen items is only a hang up because of the quantity. If they had an option to buy in bulk at a discount I probably would not mind.

There is one thing in common with all of the Primal Kitchen items. You get what you pay for. The ingredients are top notch and well put together.

Most items are Gluten Free, Sugar Free, Soy & Canola Free, Dairy Free, and Paleo Approved. Pretty impressive how they achieved those and made good tasting items in the process.

I see myself being a customer of the Primal Kitchen for quite awhile. Not every month. Probably not every other month either. Definitely every third month though.

Bandit Golf Ball Review

July 2, 2018 - Updated January 22, 2020

Bandit Golf Ball Review

As I head deeper into my very unscientific testing to find the best golf ball I find myself starting to type phrases like “illegal golf ball” or “non conforming golf ball” into Google.

It’s not that I am getting bored with legal and conforming golf balls it’s that I need to broaden my horizons. All of these golf ball manufacturers are nibbling at the edges of the rules and traditions of golf.

And maybe all of these rules and traditions are whats taking “the fun” out of golf. This game is hard enough and Heaven forbid some schlubs actually have fun once in a while.

So when I found Bandit Golf in my searches for illegal golf balls I was interested in what they were selling. They respect the rules and traditions set forth by the R&A and USGA by admitting their golf balls will not show up on the conforming product list.

But that’s not what their about. Their about making golf fun. And their slogan “Serious Equipment for the Not So Serious Golfer” backs that up.

Bandit makes two golf balls. The SB and MD. Neither of which were apart of a sample pack. The only way to buy them was a dozen at a time which I did not want to do. I kind of have a lot of golf balls piling up in the house right now.

So I contacted Bandit and asked if they would send me two sleeves of each. Didn’t have to be pretty.

Just hit me up with a price including shipping and we will go from there.

Bandit SB Golf Ball Review

Bandit MD Golf Ball Review

An email was promptly responded to by the President of Bandit Golf himself (Jeff Bennett) saying that even though they don’t have a sample pack he would fulfill my request. We agreed on a price and an invoice was paid by me on PayPal. Who knows, maybe you will see a Bandit golf ball sample pack on their website soon. Two days later they were at my house.

Bandit Golf Ball Sample Pack

From this point on I will write reviews of each golf ball separately. And just like I do with all of my reviews I play one round at Rackham Golf Course near my house in Huntington Woods, MI from the White Tees.

Bandit SB Golf Ball Review

You know what the SB stands for? No? Well let me tell you.

SB stands for Small Ball.

Now you know.

Did you know that the USGA has a rule that says golf balls must have a diameter of not less than 1.680 inches? A ball can be as large as you want but good luck fitting a beach ball in the cup. The Bandit SB has a 1.65″ diameter.

I spent half an hour searching for diameter sizes of conforming golf balls like the ProV1 but all I could find was the size of the inner core and maybe one layer. Using Titleist’ist’s numbers of a 1.530″ single solid core and the Casing Layer of .045″ inches gives me 1.575″. Which would make the ProV1 illegal which we know it’s not. There is a layer or two they are not telling us about.

So lets say most legal golf balls are around 1.70″ to 1.75″ in diameter. Using the Bandit SB’s 1.65 and dividing by 1.70 we get .97. Or a golf ball 3% smaller in size. Using 1.75 we get .94. A golf ball 6% smaller.

As the Hamster spins the wheel which powers my brain my thinking says the Bandit SB deals with at least 3% less resistance when flying through the air. For every 100 yards the Bandit SB flies it has an opportunity to go 3 yards farther than a conforming ball. At 200 yards that could be an extra 6 yards. Using the 1.75 ball you could get an extra 6 to 12 yards from 100 to 200 yards. That’s huge.

I’m probably wrong but that thinking makes sense to me. And it’s what Bandit says in their description of the SB.

In the end there were only two real scientific tests I was willing and qualified to attempt. The “Hold In Hand” and “You Can See” tests.

It’s noticeable how much smaller the Bandit SB is versus a ProV1 when holding one of each in your hands. And to prove it even more I channeled my inner genius and cut this backdrop out of an Amazon box we had lying around to show how much smaller the SB is when sitting in-between two ProV1’s.

Bandit SB vs Titleist ProV1
See! I told you you’d see.

Have you had enough “small” talk? Are you ready for me to get on with it?

Ok, let’s do that.

Sending Driver – My very first shot of the day was with Driver. And as I made my way through impact it felt like I was missing something. But as I turned through the swing I saw the Bandit SB heading straight down the fairway with what appeared to be a bit of a floating flight path.

Everything felt different with that drive. And what was missing was the rest of the golf ball I’m used to feeling at impact. It brought a slight smile to my face. What also brought a smile to my face was seeing the SB in the fairway at what is the peak of my distance with regular golf balls.

What ended up happening for the rest of the day was one of the more interesting days of driving a golf ball I’ve ever had.

Popped up my drive on #2 to about 180 yards. Hooked my drives on #3 and #4. Both of which went fairly far. After those drives I figured out I didn’t need to set up for as much as a draw as I try to hit with conforming golf balls.

Again, getting the Hamster on the wheel it is my scientific thought that with the Bandit SB being smaller it is able to create more spin with an equal amount of force compared to a conforming golf ball.

From hole #6 on I made a subtle correction and pretty much hit the Hell out of the SB.

Bandit SB Golf Ball 6th Hole

Out of the next 10 holes I could hit Driver on I put 6 in the fairway. And if it wasn’t in the fairway I was just off.

Another subtle change I made was teeing the SB a little lower than normal so I’d hit the sweet spot and reduce pop ups. That makes sense, right? It made sense to me.

I am pretty sure I had one of my longest drives ever on #10. It’s a very long 442 yard Par 4 where I am typically left with 3 or 5 wood into the green. This may have only been a 237 yard drive but I cannot remember ever being able to see the 200 yard fairway marker from where my drive came to rest. I hit 3 iron from here for the first time ever.

Bandit SB Golf Ball Driver 10th Hole

And I definitely hit my longest drive ever on #17. There is maybe 40 yards left to the green on this 300 yard long Par 4. That’s a big poke for your boy. I’ve had some pretty good drives with the TaylorMade TP5X and Titleist AVX on this hole but I feel this drive with the Bandit SB went just a little bit further.

Bandit SB Golf Ball Driver 17th Hole

The Bandit SB seemed to stay in the air for a half a second to a second more than my regular drives. Which resulted in more carry and more distance. Both of which me likey long time.

Fairway Woods & Hybrids – With me getting more distance on average with my drives it meant less 3 and 5 woods. I hit a lot of these at Rackham. Definitely on the Par 5’s and a number of my approach shots on Par 4’s on the back nine.

Again, distance was noticeably further. All because of that slight half a second to second carry that it appeared to have in the air.

Bandit SB Golf Ball Fairway
Catching some rays in the fairway.

I didn’t have any notable shots to talk about and nor did I have any GIR with one which I’m usually good for. Today it was all about advancing the Bandit SB down the fairway. It was refreshing in a way.

Irons – Hitting the Bandit SB with irons might have been one of the best ball whacking experiences of my golfing career. There is no other golf ball I have played which can replicate what the SB can do.

As I placed an iron behind the ball it gave me a little bit of extra confidence. The ball looks like it fits on the face of the club. And as you make contact it felt like the club explodes through the ball. Again, because there’s less of it to hit.

There are two characteristics of the Bandit SB which stuck out to me besides the distance. And those are height and spin.

Nearly 100% of every iron shot I hit resulted in the SB being at the top or above the window I’m used to seeing the ball in with each club. It was impressive.

But the spin was intense. Twice I put back spin on the ball. That rarely happens. Here it happened with a 9 iron.

Bandit SB Golf Ball 9 Iron

And I took a chunk out of the Par 3 5th green with an 8 iron. The SB chewed a piece of the green up and spit it out four feet from the divot. Angry little golf ball you are.

Bandit SB Golf Ball 8 Iron

On the Par 4 6th I sent a Pitching Wedge into the green from 95 yards out and it hit, jumped to the right 9 inches, and stopped.

Bandit SB Golf Ball Pitching Wedge

And I basically hurt the 10th green with a 3 iron from 205 yards out.

Bandit SB Golf Ball 3 Iron

I only had 6 Greens In Regulation which is about average. But man, hitting the SB with irons felt great. Ball flight, trajectory, and distance all had results I try to achieve with conforming golf balls.

Wedges – One of my biggest problems chipping has always been leaving them short. And that did not happen today. The Bandit SB felt a little “hoppier” leaving the club face and rolled out more.

Oddly I did not get any of them to check up which might be expected as most of my chip shots were 5 yards off the green.

As I stated above with irons the Bandit SB performed exceptionally when taking full swings with my Pitching Wedge.

Got up and down for Par once due to chipping. I did however chip one in to save double bogey on the Par 4 4th from 50 feet away.

I’m a little embarrassed to admit that happened as it started with my drive going through the fairway and under a tree. And then I did not “take my medicine” to punch it out resulting in me flubbing it under another tree. And I decided against the medicine again hitting said tree again. After that I was left with hitting the Bandit SB off a gravel road the grounds crew uses with my 4 hybrid. Which I did.

Putting – I’m going to make a bold statement here and say the Bandit SB is the best golf ball I’ve ever putted with.

Zero 3 putts. Four 1 putts. And 30 total putts for an 18 hole round of golf represents one of my best rounds of putting ever.

Can you guess why? That’s right. The Bandit SB is a smaller golf ball so it made the hole bigger.

You know when you hit a putt and its 5 feet from the hole and you can already tell its going to miss. Not so with the SB. It has a chance right up to the moment it does not.

I must have had 4 putts fall in that would have lipped out with a conforming golf ball. For the first time ever the cup looked like a peach basket as the SB made its way toward the hole.

The greens at Rackham have had a tough Spring and I putted over quite a few diseased areas which made it bumpy causing a couple putts to go offline. Who knows, maybe if the greens were in regular conditions I make those and have 28 total putts.

The Bandit SB didn’t have the softness of a ProV1 but didn’t feel like a rock coming off the putter…even though it is.

And just like the other clubs I noticed the SB to travel a little further with the same amount of force. Sounds weird to say that but if I left a putt short it was a foot or less. Everything got to the hole.

Durability – There are a couple blemishes on the SB. Which is entirely predictable since I hit the same tree twice and hit it off a gravel path. But I could definitely get a few more rounds out of it.

Bandit SB Golf Ball Durability

Score – 82. GIR – 6. Putts – 30. Fairways – 7.

Bandit SB Score

Many things are going through my mind when trying to summarize the Bandit SB as there is no golf ball like it.

Fun pops into my mind because it was. Hit some of the farthest drives I’ve ever hit at Rackham. And seeing how high the ball would get. And the spin. It looked like I knew what I was doing.

Besides the fun factor my overall lasting impression of the Bandit SB is I felt it helped level the playing field against the game of golf.

Golf is a hard ass game. Even for those who are good at it.

I shot an 82 with the Bandit SB. Disregarding the chip in double bogey hole I probably would have shot an 86 with a conforming golf ball.

But those 4 putts that would have lipped out instead fell in. And being able to take a club or two less approach shot into the greens after an above average drive made a big difference on the small greens at Rackham Golf Course.

It’s the sort of ball I see myself playing in “non-conforming” golf outings. Or with friends. Or just about anywhere.

Jeff and his team at Bandit Golf are onto something with their small ball technology. I think they just made golf fun.

Bandit MD Golf Ball Review

Rackham Golf Course. 6-28-18. White Tees. Sunny. 93 Degrees. No Wind.

Bandit MD Golf Ball Review

After a very exciting round with the SB it was time for the MD. And you can probably guess what MD stands for. That’s right, Maximum Distance.

The MD is the golf ball that put Bandit on the map a decade ago. They currently claim 5 Guinness World Records in Distance and Velocity. I doubt I’ll set any World Records myself but I sure as Hell am gonna try.

Bandit says what makes the MD unique is its “Super Reactive Core” and “Revolutionary Aerodynamic Dimple Design” coupled with an “Optimum Gram Weight”. Those are the highlights of the MD’s design. Stashed in its description are fun words like polybutadiene and icosahedral. Both of which I Googled. And both of which I will probably never Google again.

I have played a lot of distance golf balls recently so the hype is fresh. Let’s see what the MD can do.

Sending Driver – Only hit 3 fairways which is below average. Did a bit of Military style driving today. Left, right, left, right. You get the picture.

There might be something to Bandit’s claim that the MD hanging in the air a little longer and descending at a shallower angle. It appeared to do just that.

Now about the distance. This one is tough because I only found the fairway three times. Its my opinion the MD does not go as far as the SB. And I did not have any drives where the MD ended up in a spot I haven’t hit before with a conforming golf ball.

Bandit MD Golf Ball 9th Hole
Regular landing area for me with conforming golf balls on the 9th hole.

Thoughts of the Pinnacle Gold Long Drive came to mind where I felt I had to have a much faster swing to get it under control. On that day I kept pushing everything.

There was really only one notable drive with the MD and that happened on the Par 4 6th. On this drive I hit a baby draw and I know it went ten yards further then the SB I hit a week prior. It’s a 311 yard long hole and I cannot be anymore than 60 yards out. A 251 yard drive is very good for me. And it was pretty. Even the guy I was golfing with said the same.

Bandit MD Golf Ball Driver
I did a thing.

Misses were much more “missier” than I’m used to which put me in spots in the rough equal to the limits of my drives that land in the fairway or just off with conforming golf balls.

I believe that translates into the MD having more distance because even though it didn’t end up in the fairway or just off the MD was still getting out there. Even if I did push or hook it.

Playing the round back through my mind the one thing that sticks out on the front nine is I hit Pitching Wedge into the greens where I normally hit 9 Iron.

Fairway Woods & Hybrids – I hit a lot of these today because I couldn’t get the MD in the fairway resulting in longer approaches. But this is where I felt the MD shined.

My third shot of the day (because my tee shot landed behind a tree on #1 forcing me to punch out) was with 5 wood and I scorched that thing. And the sound it made was awesome. So was the feedback.

Distance was angry sorts of distance with the MD and 3 or 5 wood. It was like that for most of the day. Piercing shots with mid ball flight trajectory that rolled out on just about every shot.

Must have hit my second shot on the Par 5 7th 230 yards with a 3 wood. Even though it ended up on the left side of the fairway in the trees it was still only 20 yards to the green. I’ve never been that close to the green after my second shot on this hole. And that’s with my drive ending up on the right rough of this dogleg left 502 yard hole.

Sadly I do have to admit to losing an MD today. My tee shot on the Par 5 14th went left but also went far. It’s not a great place to be because there are 120 foot tall Oak Trees in-between you and the green. There is a lot of hard ground over there so even though my drive might have been the longest of the day I saw it bounce a good 30 yards.

Took out my 5 wood and tried to hit it through a gap between the trees and move it down the fairway. Well, I cleared the trees, the fairway, the fairway bunker, the first 10 yards of tall grass growing in a hazard, and saw it disappear into the 30 foot trees in the middle of the hazard.

My shot did not go as planned but man was it awesome. The MD must have carried 225 yards in the air as those trees are about pin high on the right side of the green.

Irons – Only 4 GIR with the MD and just one came with something more than Pitching Wedge. Just barely put an 8 iron onto the Par 3 8th green from 150 yards.

Due to me not being in the fairway most of the day it forced me to hit 3 and 5 wood a lot. Rackham is a long golf course for us average schlubs and I’m the type who would rather be long with a club I know I don’t have to swing out of my shoes with then over swing with not enough club and duff it.

I was not able to replicate what I did with the SB with the MD. Trajectory and distance were average with the MD compared to conforming balls. And it didn’t have that piercing ball flight I was able to produce with a ball like the ProV1 or AVX. You know what I’m talking about.

Sadly, no pictures of the MD leaving divots on greens with 6 through 8 irons today.

Wedges – Remember that sweet drive I had with the MD on #6 I talked about above? This is where I put my approach shot to with a three-quarter Pitching Wedge from 60 yards. Not bad.

Bandit MD Golf Ball Pitching Wedge
Guess who missed the birdie putt. His name is Brad Gibala.

And just like with the SB I chipped in again. This time to save bogey on the Par 4 11th. Funny thing is I duffed my 4th shot 3 inches then promptly hit the next one clean and it went in from 25 feet away.

Putting – I don’t know what it is about Bandit golf balls but I putt very well with them. Had 29 putts which is one better than the SB which I absolutely loved.

Two 3 putts and 7 one putts. We do have to acknowledge I was chipping a lot with me not hitting greens on approach shots which allowed me to get many shots within 15 feet. Saying all that I still had to make putts.

And just like the SB the MD got to the hole. Outside of my first putt of the day from 40 feet away coming up ten feet short everything else got to the hole.

When the MD left the putters face it felt like solid contact every time. It wasn’t soft but it was responsive. Does “distance” carryover to putters also?

Durability – I do have to apologize here as the MD you see below only has four holes of play on it. It of course looks brand new. It’s too bad I lost the first one after that monster of a 5 wood because that ball hit at least 4 Oak Trees and one cart path when the 4 hybrid I hit went right on #11 from 190 yards out. It took one Hell of a bounce and thankfully hit the fence some 20 yards away to stay in play.

Bandit MD Golf Ball Durability

Score – 84. GIR – 4. Putts – 29. Fairways – 3. Penalty Strokes – 1.

Bandit MD Score

My round of golf with the Bandit MD was different from the rounds I’ve had with other golf balls I’ve unscientifically tested. I rode a cart and played with somebody I knew. Hence why you see the name Ben up there.

With all my other tests I just go play. This time I put a post up in my fraternities alumni Facebook group saying I was playing the next day and Ben joined. It kind of threw me off my game for a couple of holes because we were talking. Typically I get paired up with someone I don’t know and we chit-chat on the tee box, throw out a few “Nice Shots”, and meet at the green.

And I’m usually the only one walking so I hit, walk to my ball, hit, walk, and there is little talking as they are driving. It keeps me focused. The 6 mile walk is great exercise too.

But it was a good decision to ride today because it was hot as balls and I was wearing brand new Nike Explorer 2 golf shoes. Hot as balls and breaking in new golf shoes could have been disastrous around the 7th hole. Thankfully the shoes were comfortable and not too many other people golfed because of the heat. We didn’t wait to hit until the 17th hole.

Those other details are important because they are details. And my unscientific testing covers all the variables. Because unscience.

Alright then. The Bandit MD was a very good golf ball. The putting surprised me. I just wish I could have been able to control it off the tee better.

An 84 is a very good score considering a penalty shot was on the scorecard because it went too far.

Conclusion

If Bandit comes out with another golf ball I will un-conclude this conclusion and add a review for it here too. Until that time comes I can only talk about the MD and SB. I played the SB first but I’m going to talk about it last.

The MD put Bandit Golf on the map. I’ve played a few gag golf balls and the MD is not one of those. It might come off as one but it is not. This is a ball you can play. I feel like I was able to experience the distance it could possibly get with fairway woods. Just wish I could have been able to control it better off the tee. Putting with the MD was surprising too.

But its the SB that stuck out to me. It was awesome. I cannot compare it to any golf ball I’ve ever played because there is not another small ball out there. At least not new. You can find a few old and beat up British golf balls on eBay but that’s it.

The distance, the spin, the height with irons, and for the first time ever I actually felt like I had a chance to make every putt from within 20 feet. It felt like it leveled the playing field for somebody like me who can break 80 but doesn’t have the skills to be a scratch golfer.

What the SB did was show me what my game could look like with a conforming golf ball if I practiced a whole lot more.

Bandit does not have a golf ball sample pack yet. You could contact them like I did and maybe they will send you a makeshift one like they did for me.

At a minimum I would highly recommend buying the SB. You might actually have fun playing golf for the first time in your life.
