Over the past 4 years I’ve been slowly putting on some muscle. Twenty pounds to be exact. I wasn’t trying to put on muscle. It just came along with me doing P90X, Insanity, and other workouts. Its been a lot more fun crushing long drives on the golf course and hitting lasers on the softball field but now I am stuck in a predicament. I have too much muscle and I want to get some of it off.
My tennis elbow injury has limited my ability to workout. Can’t really do pull ups, lift heavy weights, or do lots of push ups. This makes following a program kind of difficult as I’ve never had to deal with an injury causing me to change plans. I’m still getting my workouts in but my intensity is way down. Modifying the moves is somewhat working but my arm will act up if I push too hard. “Why bother” is how I feel sometimes.
Not pushing as hard and still eating the same has put a couple of pounds on me. It use to not be a big deal when I weighed 165 pounds 4 years ago and all I did was run. Now that I’m 185 pounds its making a big difference. Felt slower running the base paths the last couple weeks at softball and a little sluggish in my daily activities. I’m not burning the calories I would normally be able to burn if I did not have the injury.
I don’t know where to go from here. From what I’ve been reading about tennis elbow is it might never go away. That’s not good. I still want to play golf and softball. Getting bigger is not an option. I have no need to put on anymore muscle. If anything I’d like to get down to the 175 – 180 range.
Looks like I’m gonna have to be even stricter with what I eat, run a little more, and when the arm is feeling better do more reps with lighter weights. This whole getting bulky thing is not for me. Its shown me that I’m not meant to be all diesel like. Maybe this tennis elbow injury will be a good thing in the long run. My left knee aches from time to time and the last thing I need is more weight on my body.
Have you ever reached a point with your weight and realized it was too much? I’m not talking about having 30 pounds of fat to lose but more along the lines of you bulked up and your body can’t carry the weight.
