P90X Ab Ripper X

October 21, 2008 - Updated December 3, 2018

P90X Ab Ripper XP90X Ab Ripper X is a intense 15 minute workout that comes on at the end of some of the P90X workouts. And it is a doozy.

The only workouts that P90X Ab Ripper X does not come on are the Plyometrics, Cardio X, Kenpo X, and Yoga X.

The reason why is because those workouts use a lot of the ab muscles already and just as Tony Horton says, “you don’t workout abs everyday.” I have had some friends call this “thigh burner x” because you use your legs a lot.

The benefits of using the legs and thighs so much is that you really get a chance to work on your core muscles. These are the muscles from your knee caps to your pectoral muscles. Anything in between there is going to be worked out.

How Many Moves Are In P90X Ab Ripper X?

There are 11 different exercises in P90X Ab Ripper X. Each of them consists of 25 moves that usually take 30 seconds to do. Stick with it while you do the workout. It took me over 60 days to be able to finish the workout completely. There are still times when I need to take a quick in between break because I am just so exhausted.

I took a video of me doing P90X Ab Ripper X and put it on YouTube. This video was taken after 90 days of doing P90X. Before I started P90X I could not finish Ab Ripper and now I can. I had to edit some of the “easier” ab exercises so the video would not be too long and kept the harder ones unedited so you can see how challenging it is.

I did not get a 6 pack from doing Ab Ripper and that is my own fault. The only way anyone will get 6 pack abs is by following a strict diet plan. I eat well but sometimes I over eat and I’m not gonna lie to you and say that I don’t endulge in a couple high calorie adult beverages from time to time.

Depending on the lighting (LOL) and what I ate that day I can see a solid 4 pack. The only way for me to get to 6 pack ab land is to cut out a good percentage of the carbs I consume. It will be hard.

The moves are pretty simple and the results you are going to get with P90X Ab Ripper X are going to amaze you. Sometimes I will do P90X Ab Ripper X after going for a run or if its late at night and I just want to burn a couple calories before I go to bed.

Tony Horton does not give you that much time in between each move so be prepared to be moving and grooving. It goes by pretty fast and after doing P90X Ab Ripper X it will feel like it was done in no time at all.

What Are The P90X Ab Ripper X Moves Called?

The names of the moves are “In & Outs,” “Seated Bicycle,” “Seated Crunchy Frog,” “Crossed Leg Wide Leg Sit Up,” “Fifer Scissor,” “Hip Rock & Raise,” “Pulse Ups,” “V-Up Combo,” “Oblique V-Up,” “Leg Climb,” and the “Mason Twist.”

The Mason Twist or “Kayak” is probably the hardest and of course it is the last. You will hate it at first but in time it will become your favorite. All of the different kind of core/ab workouts really burn deep into those abs. Your overall fitness needs ab workouts and P90X Ab Ripper X is the best.

I have to say tha tI own the p90x dvds and I find them to be absolutely hard core. They are one hell of a work out and they will definitely get you the results that you want. I will say that it is super time consuming and I personally don’t have to time to do all of it as often as I want to. I have 3 kids and I will tell you now….they don’t all nap at the same time. Or at all for that matter. 😉

    @ Karen

I find the best way to do P90X when you’re short on time is to do the first half of the workout, stop, and then finish with Ab Ripper X.

I love Ab Ripper. It’s my favorite part of every workout, and by far the hardest, feel-the-burn ab workout I’ve ever done in my life. But at the same time it is fun.

    Brad,

I agree with you 100% on the nutrition plan, but not just for the Ab Ripper DVD but the whole P90X routine. I have done the program twice and the first time saw little to no results because I wasn’t following a sound nutrition program. The 2nd time through I followed the programs diet and lost 34 pounds. It’s all in the nutrition

    @ Steve

Sounds right. As Tony Horton once said, “Abs are made in the kitchen.” You can still get results without following the plan but not the cover of a magazine type.

i’ve been doing ab ripper and chest and back together every other day,4 days a week for 1 month…im not on any meal plan or anything but i try not to eat much….the chest and back shows good results but the ab ripper bearly shows any improvement…what should i do? reply soon pls…

    @ Chuck

You are supposed to do P90X Chest and Back only once a week for the first 30 days and Ab Ripper X is only done 3 times a week. “Abs are made in the kitchen” – Tony Horton. If you are not following the P90X Meal Plan then the visible results will be less. You are probably getting stronger in the core but to get things to show you have to be eating correctly. I had that issue during my first couple rounds of P90X.

hi im 15 years old and im “okay” fit. haha
when i do the p90x ab ripper x, for the first 3 workouts i always feel my thighs hurt more than my abs. but in the end of the entire workout, i obviously feel the intense burning of my abs.
reason why for the thigh hurting?

    @ Andy

Its because P90X Ab Ripper X is a core workout…not just abs. That’s everything from your knees to your chest.

Uhm I’m 14 years old 5″4 and I’m doing the p90x ab ripper almost everyday, is that alright? because I don’t want to stop my growth, but some people tell me ill still be growing as long as I don’t workout too much with heavy weights…

    Matt

Ab Ripper is meant to be done every other day. You need to give the abs a day to rest and recover.

    @ Dakota

Beachbody does not sell P90X Ab Ripper X on its own. However, you can buy one the P90X:MC2 or Tony Horton 1 on 1 ab workouts which are ab ripper x ish. Go to the Beachbody Store and click on Tony Horton.

Tony Horton says to do Ab Ripper X every other day because you need to give your abs a day to rest. Have to agree with him as its been working for me.

Do you do the ab ripper x every other day throughout the entire 90 day program or is there a rest period (1 week off) or something? Just wondering.

    August 10, 2011 at 9:51 am

Jimmy – Yes – every other day and then a week off every 4th week. Sign up for a free Beachbody account and click on the P90X workout sheets to show what order you are supposed to do them in.

i just bought my program and started a week ago,
im on day 8 and im lovin’ it!
however i was wondering why there was an extra ab ripper x cd at the end
of the CD album if the ab ripper 15 minute drills already come at the end of
certain workouts. Are we supposed to do a whole day of abs that im not aware of?
Any info and clarification would be immensely appreciated.
    Thanks

I think they put the Ab Ripper X workout at the end for convenience. THis way you don’t have to switch out dvds.

Raymod – More than likely. I recommend you get a free Beachbody account and use their food tracker to help you with your food decisions.

How many calories does the ab Ripper X burn in 15min? How long does it take to see results if I’m eating 1,200-1,800 calories a day and doing this workout 4 times a week plus 4miles of walking.

  27. Brad Gibala says

    March 8, 2012 at 3:13 pm

Im not sure exactly. Best bet is to get a watch that counts calories. It can’t burn that many though. Maybe 50. Are you doing P90X or just Ab Ripper X?

Yes, each exercise that has the ab-ripper at the end of the workout has the ab-ripper on that dvd as well as the individual ab-ripper dvd. You can always try craigslist. Sorry guys if you are promoting. There are always people who buy these and can’t do it and want to sell and get some of their money back. I bought the extended set 16 vids for $70. Just sayin’
