Periodically I will revisit a post and update it with new information. Not a whole lot has changed with Shakeology since I started taking it besides Beachbody adding a few new flavors. What has changed since I originally wrote this review of Shakeology in 2011 is me.
I still use Shakeology daily. Firing up the blender and brewing a pot of coffee are two engrained parts of my morning routine. Rarely do we miss a day of having Shakeology and if we do its because we finished a bag and are waiting for our monthly auto shipment to be delivered.
When I first started taking Shakeology I was 29 years old and in pretty damn good shape. When I wrote this original review in 2011 I was 31 years old and in even better shape. Right now I am 37 years old and in ok shape.
Outside of a couple small injuries I believe Shakeology has had a positive influence on my overall health over the years. I’ve made the change to a mostly Paleo diet a year ago and can see changes from eating this way. Put Shakeology and Paleo together and its my feeling the two have done enough on reducing inflammation in my body where I notice it.
I’m still amazed I do not get the sinus infections I used to get. Something happened the first spring after taking Shakeology 8 years ago that has kept these sinus infections from getting me. Starting in junior high school all the way to turning 28 years old I would come down with a sinus infection that would put me down for up to a week every March. I am not sure how or why they stopped but it coincides with using Shakeology.
The biggest change since I started using Shakeology is I now have two kids born one year and twenty days apart. First one July 9th, 2014 and the second one coming July 29th, 2015. I will admit to a little bit of baby weight added on until my youngest turned one.
Saying all that I cannot deny the amount of stuff (germs, etc.) they bring home from the daycare and in general. There have been a couple instances where some lazy cough or runny nose took a week to go away with only one time where I was sick for a couple of days.
Its my opinion that Shakeology gave me that little extra “health boost” to help keep things functioning properly.
My three year old son and two year old daughter started drinking Shakeology with us every morning when both were around 18 months old. They both love Shakeology. Its the one thing besides stupid fruit snacks that they ask for randomly. Sometimes they fight each other to turn on the blender.
It should be known that they were some growing pains when giving the kids Shakeology. It was so much easier when I could put it in a sippy cup or a cup with a lid. Eventually they didn’t want a lid and to de-escalate a situation at 7am I would put two inches worth of shake in a cup without a lid and hope they would not make a mess.
We have had our fair share of spills on the carpet and many chocolate mustaches. And drips on their clothes after getting them dressed to head to daycare which resulted in getting them entirely re-dressed. But nothing compares to the time my 2 year old daughter dumped the entire cup of chocolate Shakeology on her head. I may have let her cry for a minute as I went to get my iPhone to take a picture.
Shakeology is a meal replacement shake. This we know. What I never did until last year was start using it as a meal replacement. What I did for years was use Shakeology as a meal addition shake. Yes – I was having Shakeology with breakfast instead of on its own.
This little adjustment left me feeling lighter throughout the morning and with more energy. Baby weight started coming off and I felt more energetic working out again. Particularly Body Beast as I’ve been mostly doing this one since my kids were born.
We alternate between regular chocolate and vanilla flavors. Add a banana, blueberries, strawberries, ice, water, and blend. Thats our day to day recipe. Once a week I’ll throw some peanut butter or PB2 in there. And I’ll throw a scoop of collagen peptides in my glass. Got to take care of these knees.
We have bought Vegan Shakeology in the past and maybe once a year we will buy a bag to keep as backup when our regular order goes out. I’ve always thought the Vegan Shakeology (all flavors) had a lighter taste and didn’t fill me up like the others. You’d have to be spot on with the blender or it would be very watery. I like Vegan Shakeology but not as much as the regular ones.
Maybe two times a year we will buy a box of the Shakeology packets to have around for when we travel. I continue to take them with me on ski trips and keep one in my golf bag. Again, just that little boost to get through the day.
After 8 years of taking Shakeology I feel it has continue to show its value as an all around nutritional product. Yes – I am a Beachbody Coach and if you click on a link to Shakeology on my site or sign up to be a coach with me and buy Shakeology I will be compensated.
But what person in their right mind would take something every day for 8 years if it was a piece of crap? This is the message I try to get through to people who are on the fence.
From this point I get into reviews of each Shakeology I have tried along with answering questions about it.
Chocolate Shakeology Review
Chocolate is the one flavor of Shakeology I continue to order. It has been my favorite flavor over the last seven years.
When I switch up my alternating flavors I keep this one and switch the other flavor. There is just something about a chocolate shake that works.
My Chocolate Shakeology recipe is simple. Banana, strawberries, blueberries, and occasionally some peanut butter. It tastes good enough that I do not get bored with it. Even after all these years of drinking it. Andrea and the kids like it to so I don’t see a point with changing it.
Chocolate Shakeology is the flavor I would recommend somebody start with when trying Shakeology for the first time. The ingredients do not overtake the chocolate taste.
If Beachbody does make changes to the chocolate formula I will update it here.
Vanilla Shakeology Review
My second favorite Shakeology flavor is Vanilla. It was a nice change of pace when Beachbody introduced it from the years when you could choose from Chocolate or Greenberry.
The interesting thing about Vanilla Shakeology is it does not taste like Vanilla. I have had a number of Vanilla flavored foods over the years and this does not taste like one of them.
Maybe I have never had real Vanilla before and that is why this tastes so much different. If the powder was not white-ish you would not say this is Vanilla.
I do like it and I use the same recipe as Chocolate Shakeology in Vanilla Shakeology. A banana, strawberries, blueberries, and peanut butter. It tastes great.
Beachbody has made a few changes to the ingredients over the years as they tried to perfect it. I remember it being a big deal for them to get the formula right after they found out a secret most companies do in the processing of meal replacement shakes is to put additives in to give it a Vanilla taste.
Getting a real Vanilla taste is hard and its why Beachbody took the extra time to get it right. Vanilla is typically the flavor I keep on my alternating monthly order with Chocolate.
Tropical Strawberry Vegan Shakeology Review
I do not mind the Tropical Strawberry flavor. It doesn’t really taste strawberry nor does it taste tropical. You know what I’m talking about.
When we get tired of regular Chocolate Shakeology we switch up our order to the Vegan flavors and always include Tropical Strawberry.
I throw in some berries, spinach, and kale if we have it in the fridge. This is my go to recipe for this flavor.
And for some reason I just cannot get it to turn out right when I use the blender. Its always runny.
Tropical Strawberry is lighter than the regular flavors because of the plant based proteins they use. Its pretty much like this with all of the Vegan flavors.
The powder itself looks almost Vanilla with a touch of strawberry in it. Not the other way around. If I was full on Vegan than Tropical Strawberry would be a simple choice.
Vegan Chocolate Shakeology Review
For the first time in years I changed flavors on my monthly Shakeology auto ship order. For 2018 I switched it to Tropical Strawberry and Vegan Chocolate.
I’ve been rocking this Paleo way of eating for awhile and thought it would be best if I lightened up on the meat where I can. So I went full on Vegan with my Shakeology order.
I doubt it will make a dramatic difference with my health as its the same ingredients as the non-Vegan besides what they use for the protein. Plant based versus animal based.
It is not my first time using Vegan Chocolate. Never really liked it when it first came out. I just preferred the taste of regular Chocolate.
Plus, the Vegan Chocolate was tricky trying to blend as it is much lighter. Would always come out soupy.
I’ll probably stay on the Vegan Shakeology kick for awhile as I’m enjoying how much lighter it makes me feel throughout the day. Its not a dramatic difference but it is subtle.
I never bought another tub as its my feeling I was getting enough greens with the foods I eat. Over the last two years its common for me to have a salad every day if not twice a day.
I’m probably getting enough nutrition from Shakeology already and taking Power Greens might only make a marginal difference. Even with me getting it for $26 with my coach discount instead of the retail price of $35 I really could not justify it. I really only see Power Greens making sense for someone if they absolutely know they do not eat enough salads or vegetables and this would be a quick fix for them.
Digestive Health: For the hell of it I decided to pick up a tub of Digestive Health and started adding it to my morning Shakeology.
As you can guess its designed to help with digestive issues and cardiovascular health as it has Omega-3 Fatty Acids in it. Throw in some fiber and other ingredients and its supposed to provide even healthier results with Shakeology.
I didn’t notice any of those additional benefits. Maybe I did get some benefits but nothing noticeable. Basically, I felt the same after a few weeks of using it.
I don’t have digestive issues and Shakeology on its own is probably enough for me on the digestive and cardiovascular front. I don’t see myself buying Digestive Health in the near future.
Focused Energy: Another one of those why the hell not purchases I made was a tub of Focused Energy.
This stuff is strong. And I made the mistake of having my morning cup of coffee and mixing Focused Energy into Shakeology.
Had a tee time to go golfing an hour after I finished both and as I approached the first tee box the jitters kicked in. Caffeine was pulsing through my body.
It took me five holes to walk off the caffeine to get back to just being “alert and focused” instead of those and jittery.
As it says on the label you can use Focused Energy to replace your morning cup of coffee. I will agree with that statement. Just don’t have both like I did.
I still like coffee but I could see myself keeping a tub of Focused Energy around for those days I don’t want it but still need a little kick of something.
Daily Sunshine Review
Not technically under the Shakeology branding we now have the option to buy Daily Sunshine. Lets just say its Shakeology for kids. Because thats who its designed for. “A snack or meal for picky kids and even pickier parents”.
Since I now have kids I decided to buy the Daily Sunshine sample pack when Beachbody had a sale. There are only two flavors, Strawberry and Banana or Chocolate. I treated each sampling like how I do with regular Shakeology minus the extra fruits and blended it with ice.
My kids were not more impressed with Daily Sunshine than their regular Shakeology. Nor was I. Both flavors tasted good but I don’t see myself ever buying Daily Sunshine.
My kids like Shakeology and drink it every day with me. So the thought of having a bag of Shakeology plus a bag of Daily Sunshine sent to my house every month is a bit overkill.
I really only see a purpose of buying Daily Sunshine if you and your kids do fall into the category of being extremely picky.
**Original 2011 Review When I was 31 Years Old Below**
Just like with any supplement I was a little hesitant about it at first. How much difference could Shakeology make? I ate healthy, took vitamins, and had a protein shake after working out already. Wasn’t this enough? I thought so as those are pretty much the basics in nutrition or at least what I thought. Little did I know how much I did not know about nutrition.
Many thin or in shape people tend to believe that another meal replacement shake or supplement is not going to make that big of a difference. Most say they eat well enough and cannot justify spending $120 a month for a bag of magic powder. That put me in the same boat as them before using Shakeology. I finished three rounds of P90X, one round of Insanity, and was in the best shape of my life. I will admit to having a cheat meal or two along with a couple adult beverages on the weekend. Yes, I am a real person.
I started taking chocolate Shakeology one time a day as instructed. No recipes for the first couple days as I wanted to see what it tasted like straight up and it was very good. However, on day 3 I started to feel different. Things started happening and err…moving. Beachbody needs a warning label on the Shakeology bag that says “May Cause Extreme Bowel Movements.” I know this is TMI but just being honest. I did not know if I should be scared about what just happened or excited.
It took 35 days to finish off the first bag of Shakeology. This was perfect because of the free shipping you get from Beachbody when you choose auto ship. My next bag showed up the day after I finished the first one. I worked out almost every day and used Shakeology daily.
The one thing I noticed during the first month was how I felt lighter, was not as hungry, was more alert, and I craved better food. Those first two weeks were like a jumpstart to my digestion system. The more I took it resulted in less EBM’s. I hope you think that’s funny because I could not write this without making light of it. Yes, Shakeology will make you poop.
Shakeology made a big of difference in my results. I know I shared TMI with you but I think its important to know. I do not know what each ingredient in Shakeology does but it felt like it was gently scrubbing the insides of my stomach and forcing the garbage out.
Remember how I thought I was eating well? I took a photo with my shirt off and saw more definition in my body than ever before. I had not taken my body fat % in awhile but I know it had to drop to get the definition that was showing. At the time I was doing a mixture of P90X, Insanity, and Tony Horton 1 on 1 workouts but was nothing I had not done before.
My before and after Shakeology photos show more definition in my abs and my gut looks tighter. Must be from the EBM’s. My arms and forearms look bigger too. Not sure if its because I had more energy when working out or if it was Shakeology cutting through the body fat so they look more defined.
A Funny Shakeology Story
Since I was having such great results with Shakeology I decided to give away a box of Shakeology samples for Christmas last year to my family. Each aunt or uncle received 5 samples and I told them they had to use it everyday. Four days later I received a phone call from one of my uncles who is over 50 years old. Hilarity ensued over the next 20 minutes.
He told me he had been having record setting bowel movements over the past 4 days. My uncle even called his Doctor to see if there was something wrong. He’s about 30 pounds overweight but is active playing golf, bowling, and does a physical job at GM.
After losing 7 pounds in 4 days he felt so much…you guessed it…better, lighter, and full of energy. He asked me where he could buy Shakeology and has been taking Shakeology since. I’ve had a few stories about Shakeology like this said to me before.
I drink it in the morning along with eating a bowl of Kashi cereal, oatmeal, or a breakfast burrito. This maximizes the benefits of Shakeology throughout the entire day. Eat something before drinking Shakeology after a long night of partying. It felt like an epic battle of good and evil were duking it out in my stomach. I’ve done this twice and one time I puked. I think the booze had a stronghold on my stomach and needed to be absorbed by food before introducing the over 70 good ingredients that Shakeology has.
If you know that you are going to do some drinking then make up a glass of Shakeology before you head out. This way Shakeology has the stronghold on your stomach throughout the night. I did this by chance one night as I forgot to drink Shakeology that day and the next morning I woke up not feeling fuzzy when I should of been for the amount I consumed. Also, I’m not saying drink more because Shakeology will cure hangovers.
The longest I’ve gone without drinking Shakeology in the past two years is 4 days and its because we ran out before our auto shipment came in. Day 1 and two were ok but on day 3 I felt a little slower, heavier, and had less energy. And yes, I was not as regular on the 3rd and 4th days. Its like my body was telling me it was missing something that it enjoyed taking.
I have received a number of questions over the years about Shakeology and will do my best to answer them here. Most of my answers below are from personal experience.
Does Shakeology Expire?
Shakeology does have an expiration date and will go bad after 2 years. The good news is you won’t or at least shouldn’t have to worry about Shakeology ever expiring due to you using it everyday. The easiest way to find out when yours will expire is to look on the back of your packet or bag. Beachbody presses the expiration date into the plastic. Top right for the packets and very top for the bag. Here is a picture of a Greenberry packet I have. Little tricky to see but it says 07/14 as the expiration date.
Can You Use Expired Shakeology?
I have drank Shakeology that was past its expiration date once. My parents had misplaced a bag in their pantry and found it two years later. We had just ran out and we’re waiting on ours so my Mom said I could have the old bag if I wanted.
Was curious to see if it was still good so I took the bag and started using it. The two year old bag of Chocolate Shakeology tasted just like a brand new bag and everything worked like normal. I’d say you’d be ok using a bag of Shakeology past its expiration date.
But again, no need to worry when your Shakeology will expire. You’re supposed to be using up your supply within 30 days anyways.
Does Shakeology Make You Poop?
It’s not so much that Shakeology makes you poop. It’s more along the lines that Shakeology helps you digest food better and helps you become more regular. All of the digestive enzymes and prebiotics in Shakeology help your body gently eliminate the toxins that are in your body from the processed foods you eat. Knowing that, you could say that Shakeology does make you poop.
Most people who are overweight when they start using Shakeology will notice what Shakeology can do in regards to going to the bathroom. My uncle dropped 7 pounds in just 3 days of using Shakeology and it was all poop. Hilarity insued after he told me but he also said it was the first time in 20 years that he pooped like that. Hilarity followed again. In all seriousness though, it’s very important to be regular so you get the toxins out of your body. So much of the processed foods we eat get stuck in our system and make simple functions harder to do.
So yes, Shakeology will make you poop. Probably more when you start using it and then more on a timed schedule after you get most of the toxins out of your system. It’s still very important to be using Shakeology everyday or otherwise it won’t have the same effect. Shakeology is not a laxative so you’re not going to be running to the bathroom after taking it. Its also not a pill that will make you crap your brains out. Shakeology goes to work on helping your body function normally in every department. Including the poop department.
Buy Shakeology Cheap
There is only one way to save money when buying Shakeology and that is with a Beachbody Coach account. With a coach account you get a 25% discount on all Beachbody products.
All Shakeology flavors cost $129.95. Coaches get it for $97.46.
There is a $40 sign up fee which can be waived if you buy a challenge pack during sign up and it costs $16 a month afterwards.
The savings add up. My estimates are I’ve saved (129.95 – 97.46 = 32.49 – 16 fee = 16.49 a month x 12 months = 197.88 a year x 8 years = ) $1583.04 over the past 8 years because I buy it through the coach account.
If you want to get involved with the business side of being a coach than cool. If not, cool too. Use the discount. Many people do. Free shipping is available with or without the account if you select the monthly auto ship.
What about buying Shakeology on eBay, Craigslist, or Amazon?
I know what your thinking. I’ll go to eBay and buy Shakeology there because it must be cheaper. You need to know that some of the listings on eBay and Craigslist are scams.
The majority of the listings are legit and are people who bought Shakeology on auto shipment but did not use Shakeology daily. Before you know it they have 3 unopened bags of Shakeology sitting in their kitchen totaling $360 and are trying to get some money back. My suggestion to these people is to cancel the auto shipment and work through the bags.
What happens with the non-legit listings? Then you have to deal with tracking down the seller, getting eBay, and PayPal involved. I guess if you’re meeting somebody face to face via Craigslist then you’ll be ok. But do you really want to buy food from somebody you’re meeting via Craigslist? I love Craigslist. I have bought and sold a ton of stuff through it but never food.
When you buy directly through Team Beachbody you will not have to worry about those issues. Their customer service people are there to take care of you if you have any questions about your order. Beachbody does not have an account on eBay or Craigslist and does not allow any of their coaches to sell Shakeology there.
Beachbody does have an account at Amazon but is not sold there as it is a Team Beachbody exclusive product. Also, most of the prices being listed on eBay for Shakeology are about the same as Beachbody.
If you do not want to be a Beachbody Coach yourself I still recommend you buy Shakeology from one. Most coaches I know (including myself) use Shakeology daily and are always doing one of the Beachbody workouts. They can probably answer any question you have about Shakeology and if they can’t they can probably point you in the right direction to get it answered.
Shakeology Return Policy
Beachbody has their “Bottom Of The Bag Guarantee” with every bag purchased. You can return the bag of Shakeology even if its empty for a full refund minus shipping and handling as long as you do it within the first 30 days of ordering.
Thats why you might as well use the monthly autoship order process for free shipping on the first order. If you don’t like Shakeology then you break even on the shipping. Otherwise you’re out the first $15 shipping cost. To make a return you need to call Beachbody’s Customer Service people and they will take care of you on the spot.
But knowing all of this there is nothing to lose in ordering Shakeology. If you don’t feel better, energized, or are not seeing results then send Shakeology back and get a full refund.
The return policy is the same for the coach account too. Don’t want to be a coach in the first 30 days? Cancel your coach account and get fully refunded the sign up fee and the cost of the empty bag of Shakeology your sending back.
To expedite the process of finding the flavor of Shakeology you like most you can now buy Shakeology sample packs.
Shakeology Sampler – $25. Chocolate, Vanilla, Cafe Latte, Greenery, and Strawberry flavors.
Shakeology Vegan Sampler – $20. Chocolate, Vanilla, Tropical Strawberry, and Cafe Latte vegan flavors.
Does Shakeology Taste Good?
Yes, Shakeology does taste good. I’m amazed how Beachbody was able to pack so much nutrition into Shakeology and make it taste so good. But the better question is what flavor of Shakeology tastes the best.
With nine different Shakeology flavors to try you really need to taste all of them before saying whether or not Shakeology tastes good on a whole. Some people love one flavor and hate another. People have different taste buds so I’ll go over which flavors I think are the best followed by what other people have told me.
My Favorite Shakeology Flavors
- Cafe Latte
- Chocolate Vegan
- Vanilla Vegan
- Cafe Latte Vegan
- Tropical Strawberry Vegan
The taste is so much better with the chocolate than the others and is why its a crowd favorite. Greenberry doesn’t do so well. You either like Greenberry or you don’t. I think its because Greenberry doesn’t taste green nor does it taste berry. The vegan flavors are lighter to the taste and are a little harder to get them right in the blender. I seem to make them watery.
It’s best to buy the alternating monthly Shakeology packets from the Beachbody store so you get a chance to find the flavor for you. After you find which Shakeology flavor is best for you then get Beachbody to change your order so you get the bag sent.
I found that after using Shakeology for a couple of years now that I kind of enjoy all the flavors about the same. I will always think chocolate will taste the best but I look forward to having the occasional Greenberry or Tropical Strawberry to switch things up.
3 Day Shakeology Cleanse
Most people who have bought Shakeology have heard about the 3 Day Shakeology cleanse. If you have not heard about it by now then you should really look into doing it as its a quick way to detox.
I’m not a nutritionist but merely a messenger of how to do the Shakeology cleanse. It is not a true cleanse because you are not deprived of calories and nutrients. What this does is provide maximum nutrients with the least amount of calories.
How To Do The 3 Day Shakeology Cleanse?
You need to follow the same regimen for 3 days straight. Have 3 Shakeology shakes per day, 1 or 2 pieces for fruit as a snack, and 1 salad for dinner that can include chicken or fish. Drink 2 to 4 liters of water every day and go easy on the salad dressing. Limit your use of salt and pepper with the meals too.
What Do The Meals Look Like?
Breakfast: 1 Scoop Shakeology with or without fruit
Snack: 1 Piece of Fruit
Lunch: 1 Scoop Shakeology
Snack: 1 Scoop Shakeology with or without fruit
Dinner: Salad with fish or chicken served with 3 servings of vegetables.
Use 8 to 10 oz of water blended with ice in each Shakeology you have. You should be consuming 800 – 1100 calories per day on the 3 Day Shakeology Cleanse. Do one every 4 months or in between workout programs but not during a normal week of working out as you won’t have enough energy.
Beachbody’s fitness guru Steve Edwards says a recovery week would be an ideal time. Lay off other supplements during the 3 days. Do a 1 or 2 day Shakeology cleanse if you ate or drank a lot over the weekend. This is a quick way to get all of the gunk out of your system and back on track.
What Were Your Shakeology Cleanse Results?
I have done the 3 day Shakeology cleanse 3 times losing 1 pound and barely a .5% of body fat each time. This was to be expected as I already ate well and don’t have a lot of weight to lose. Even though I take Shakeology daily, this for me was more of a way to get whatever junk I had in my system out before starting my next 60 or 90 day workout program.
When I woke up on the 4th day I felt lighter and mentally better. The only down side from doing the Shakeology cleanse was feeling very hungry on the third day. I knew this was coming as I cut my normal calorie intake in half.
Theres always the 3 Day Refresh available to do if you did not see results cleansing with Shakeology.
Does Shakeology Cure The Common Cold?
There is no cure for the common cold so far but as most of us know there are treatments for it. Getting rest, drinking fluids, and washing your hands help limit it spreading to others. Most of the info I found about antibiotics and antivirals say neither have an effect against the common cold. Fooled me for all these years. The link also says healthy people tend to not get the cold as much as non-healthy people. Kind of makes sense even without getting all scientific.
Shakeology is not the cure to the common cold. Many who use Shakeology daily do say they don’t get them as much though. My best guess is because of all the nutrition in Shakeology. The link at the top says studies show Vitamin C to not really have an effect on curing the common cold. This got me thinking into what does stop the common cold. The best I could find is from being healthy and having a strong immune system. And then if there is anything in Shakeology that helps build up your immune system. Turns out there is.
These are nutrients in foods that slow down the oxidation of our bodies. They also protect us from free radical damage and help the body’s natural response to inflammation. Camu-Camu and Goji Berry are two of those powerful anti-oxidants in Shakeology.
These promote a strong immune system, slow down aging, help detoxify the body, and are the nutrients believed to be necessary to sustaining human life. Sounds like they are kind of a big deal. Moringa, Spirulina, and Chlorella are all in Shakeology and help out with those.
These bad boys increase energy, protect the body from stress (don’t we always get a cold when we’re stressed), help balance endocrine hormones, and promote a strong immune system. Sounds like they do a lot of work. Beachbody says there are 9 Adaptogens in Shakeology which are more than any other shake out there. The most potent ones in Shakeology are Maca Root, Schisandra, Ashwagandha, and Astragalus.
Shakeology does not cure the common cold but it will give it one hell of a fight. These are just some of the 70+ ingredients that are in Shakeology. Don’t some of them sound kind of angry? Like, your glad they are on your side. The trick is you have to use it everyday. Like everyday. Not somedays. Not once in a while. Everyday. Beyond helping fight the common cold, Shakeology will do so much more only if you let it.
If your sick and tired (no pun intended) of being sick and tired from the common cold then pick up a bag of Shakeology. Chocolate is my favorite and Beachbody hooks you up with free shipping when you select auto ship. Do it. Your body will thank you later.
Does Shakeology Have Caffeine In It?
Wondering if that boost of energy you get from Shakeology comes from caffeine? Greenberry Shakeology is the only flavor with zero caffeine in it. The rest of the flavors have trace levels of caffeine.
From what I could find, its the green tea extract (which is present in both Chocolate and Greenberry) that is decaffeinated but Chocolate and Chocolate Vegan both contain minimum levels of caffeine from the cocoa in those formulas.
With Beachbody sticking to their standards of using whole ingredients and not extracts in the vegan formulas, an all natural green tea extract containing low levels of caffeine is used in both Tropical Strawberry and Chocolate Vegan.
Beachbody has said Chocolate Shakeology contains about 18mg of caffeine. A regular cup of coffee has 75-100mg while a cup of decaf coffee has 2-15mg in it. At 18mg of caffeine, Shakeology is similar to a cup of decaf coffee. What this means is you’re not going to get the ups and downs or the jitters from drinking Shakeology. It’s a smooth and constant energy throughout the day.
If you’re looking to kick a caffeine habit completely then go with Greenberry Shakeology. Many people I talk to have said that Shakeology has helped them eliminate coffee from their morning routine all together or at least put it at bay. The strong amounts of caffeine in many of the coffee’s today can be overwhelming at time. Shakeology will satisfy your caffeine addiction with a little bit of caffeine but a whole lot more of nutrition.
Shakeology Made Me Sick
Every once in a while I’ll get an email from somebody saying Shakeology made them sick. As in puke their brains out. It doesn’t happen that often so when I hear about it happening I have to do a little investigating. These are the top 3 reasons why people get sick from Shakeology.
- Allergic – Most common reason. There are over 70 ingredients in Shakeology and many of them are not native to the U.S. Somebody usually finds out after the fact that one of those ingredients did not do so well in their system which caused them to get sick.
- Poor Health – If you’ve been eating poorly for a long time then your body might not be ready for such a large dose of nutrition all at once. It seems those who experienced this all had it happen after their first or second dose of Shakeology. Their body rejected all of it as it was not accustomed to those type of healthy ingredients. Instead of giving up on Shakeology I suggested taking half scoops until they could stomach it. This seemed to help.
- Alcohol – I’ve experienced this twice. Don’t let Shakeology be the first thing you put in your system after a night of drinking. Eat something first and have it in the afternoon. Your stomach will have time to settle and the food will absorb some of the alcohol by then. Otherwise its kind of like the poor health reason above. Too much good vs evil going on all at once.
The only one of these that you really can’t do that much about is being allergic to one of the ingredients in Shakeology. If that is the case then you might need to look at getting a tamer meal replacement shake or making your own with whey protein. I’d say 99% of the people who have bought Shakeology from me and told me about their experience with it have never had any of these problems.
Why Is Shakeology Expensive?
One of the most asked questions about Shakeology is why is it so expensive. At $120 a bag, Shakeology is the most expensive meal replacement shake out there. Unfortunately, too many people stop right there and won’t even think about buying Shakeology due to the price.
It’s Shakeology’s ingredients that make it expensive. We’re not talking about a tub of Whey Protein and some vitamins. We’re talking about 70+ ingredients that make up Shakeology. Most of which are not grown in the United States. In the development phase of Shakeology, Beachbody sent Darin Olien around the world to find ingredients.
After they found which ones worked they went back to those countries and purchased tractors for the farmers to grow more of them. Not in all cases but in some. Many of those areas are under developed and don’t have the capacity to produce at the levels which Beachbody needs. Those costs start adding up. Most of which are logistic costs. If you flip over a bag of Shakeology and look at the ingredient list you’ll see quite a bit of stuff. Have you heard of or seen any of those ingredients in your local grocery store?
What you really need to think about when it comes to the cost is the breakdown of each one of the ingredients in Shakeology. Here is what they look like individually and if you were to buy them on your own.
Would you rather spend $461 to buy the ingredients separately or $120 from Beachbody? Would you rather have 25 different bags and bottles of ingredients taking up counter top space or one bag of Shakeology?
When you take into account the cost of acquiring the ingredients, shipping them back to the U.S, combining them, packaging, and so forth that you get the $120 price. Yes, Shakeology is expensive but it’s for good reason. Beachbody is not trying to rip us off. It’s amazing how they can sell a 30 day supply for only $120.
I really hope this helps in breaking down why Shakeology might seem so expensive. If you use it once a day for a meal it breaks down to about $4 per serving. Less than fast food or a cup of coffee at Starbucks and has like a billion % more nutrition than those.
Is Shakeology A Scam?
Shakeology, in my opinion, is the best product Beachbody sells as it simplifies the nutrition part of the workout programs. The hardest part with getting results from workouts like P90X and Insanity is the meal plans.
My guess why people would think Shakeology is a scam is due to Beachbody’s claims it is “The Healthiest Meal of the Day.” That’s a confident stance on a product that many would say is expensive. Shakeology is not cheap and unfortunately our society’s mindset has changed to think that cheap is good when in the 80’s and 90’s cheap was considered garbage.I’m betting that this whole Shakeology is a scam thing is people wondering how a meal replacement shake could be so expensive.
There are so many reviews of Shakeology out there from people who gave Shakeology a chance and are talking about their results from it. My favorite ones are how people try to say that Shakeology made them poop a lot more without saying poop.
There is also a large community of people at Team Beachbody who swear by the product and use it daily. Most will stay on the auto ship program as they go through an entire bag of Shakeology before the end of the month.
Beachbody makes a quality product and they stand behind it with a 30 day money back guarantee. You should have no worries about being scammed when you buy a bag of Shakeology knowing that.
Why would you ever want to cancel Shakeology? Do you really want to quit taking one of the easiest ways to provide nutrition and good health for yourself?
I’m not talking about improving your results with P90X or Insanity. I’m talking about your day-to-day health. Like the apple a day keeps the Dr. away stuff. It cannot get easier to improve your health than having one scoop of Shakeology a day.
When people tell me they need to cancel their autoship order of Shakeology it comes back to a couple of reasons.
- I have 3 un-opened bags on top of the fridge – You’re not taking it daily. How are you going to feel the full effects of what Shakeology can do for you if you’re never taking it or only using it once in awhile? Start using it daily. Heck, start using it twice a day to catch up. There is no harm in using Shakeology for two snacks a day.
- I’m not seeing results – It’s because you’re not taking it. Sorry, thats the truth.
- I’m allergic to it – Ok, I’ll let you slide. There are so many ingredients not native to the U.S in Shakeology that from time to time somebody will have an allergic reaction to one of them.
- It costs too much – Your not using it every day. Sorry, if you were using Shakeology every day you would appreciate what it does for you and look at each $4 serving as an investment in your health.
Of the 4 reasons to cancel Shakeology there is only one legitimate reason. All the rest of them show you’re not using it. I know this to be true from the hundred or so people I’ve talked to over the years who ask me how to cancel. Before letting them off the hook I ask them why.
Almost 100% of the time I am able to get it out of them that they are not using it. After challenging them to make it a habit and use it for 30 days they usually stay on for good.
I understand the cost can be a real issue for some. This is why you need to sign up as Beachbody Coach to get the 25% discount. Do you understand now that you don’t have an excuse to cancel Shakeology? Do I need to send Tony Horton to your house?
If you absolutely want Tony Horton to come to your house, make you do pushups, show him your fridge full of fruits, vegetables, and organic foods in an attempt to prove you’ve got this health thing under control without the support of Shakeology then you can follow the instructions here to cancel your monthly autoship order of Shakeology.
The meal plans that come with P90X and the Insanity workout are IMO the toughest things to follow. Shakeology has really helped me a lot as I really don’t like to cook and this guarantees at least one good meal a day. It has increased my results with the workouts and I just feel better all around. I don’t even care that it costs me $90 a month (Beachbody Coach price) to buy it. Sometimes I have to buy another bag of it because I’ll have two servings a day and run out before the end of the month.
Regardless of where you are in your health or fitness you really need to buy a bag of Shakeology and give it a try for at least two weeks. Personally, I think Shakeology is the best product Beachbody makes. Yes, better than P90X. Put the two together and you have a winning combo.
So head over to the Beachbody store and buy a bag of Shakeology. Chocolate is my favorite. If you want to read about the ingredients first then get a free Beachbody account and do some reading. I hope you take my Shakeology review seriously as I’ve said probably more than I need to but I want you to know how great this meal replacement shake is.
